Maybe I don't have any of the context? The world ending and then some guy gettng to talk about how life was pretty good while his family and friends? try to pretend that nothing is wrong and then everything ends seems kind of like an apocalypse stereotype? I'm sure if I saw the movie and got emotionally invested in the characters it would be different but this out of context doesn't really move me.

But politicians and rich assholes didn't want to disrupt the economy and waited until it was too late to stop the comet. They made a last-minute vain attempt to stop it and fucked it up because they failed to listen to experts and tried to profit off the maneuver.

The people around the table aren't pretending nothing is wrong, they just know they're absolutely fucked and choose to spend their final moments surrounded by loved ones trying to enjoy the little time they have.

This is not a fun, lighthearted, uplifting movie meant to restore your faith in humanity and it was never meant to be.
