They're going Talibananas!

teethsalad - 2021-08-19

https://www.indiatimes.com/news/world/taliban-militants-have-burnt -down-an-amusement-park-a-day-after-they-were-enjoying-rides-54747 7.html

casualcollapse - 2021-08-19

Because of course they didn't

casualcollapse - 2021-08-19

*did

ashtar. - 2021-08-19

That could be true, but the only source is a grainy video of a fire posted by someone on twitter.

teethsalad - 2021-08-19

yeah india times isn't exactly super reputable but i could entirely see them burning down a theme park because a cartoon fiberglass elephant or whatever made them question god's existence and/or made them horny

casualcollapse - 2021-08-19

And for Satan's sake could you be asked to use the link shortener bitly

teethsalad - 2021-08-19

no

Cena_mark - 2021-08-19

They only survived 20 years of US occupation because Afghanistan is a landlocked country, otherwise they would have been crushed by the Coast Guard.

teethsalad - 2021-08-19

thank you for your service

ashtar. - 2021-08-19

*****

Crackersmack - 2021-08-19

I see the Coasties in the intracoastal waterway all the time ignoring no wake zones in their gigantic rigid inflatable boat and it makes me think that it probably is a lot of fun

yogarfield - 2021-08-19

Much love.

Cena_mark - 2021-08-20

God, you really think we have the time to ticket everyone you think is making s wake?

Crackersmack - 2021-08-22

no I like Coasties because they never stop anybody unless they are doing absolutely insane shit, also local boat cops can't fuck with them so they haul ass pretty much everywhere, seems like a cool job.

Binro the Heretic - 2021-08-19

Is this video just having a goof or was it designed to make us say, "Fuck it, we gotta go back in."?

ashtar. - 2021-08-19

I mean, I'm petty happy that the Afghan people are finally free to determine their own destiny?

Binro the Heretic - 2021-08-19

Sort of, I guess?

I mean, it looks like the Taliban leadership just wants to take over the country and run it like a legit country.

Unfortunately, they seem to have used the Islamic analog of Proud Boys as soldiers.

SolRo - 2021-08-20

And now we’ll get to see a reasonably accurate depiction of what it looks like if anarchists tried to form a government.

teethsalad - 2021-08-22

"I mean, I'm petty happy that the Afghan people are finally free to determine their own destiny?"

oh you sweet summer child who let you outside your basement without a helmet on

Crackersmack - 2021-08-19

Remember that viral video of all the Taliban guys fucking around in the gym a couple days ago? A journalist already pulled the receipts for the equipment and it turns out that we paid like $1.4 million for about one hotel workout room's worth of gym equipment.

Every aspect of this war, for 20 years, has been about theft. Every requisition, every invoice, all fraud. Countless innocent people dead. Trillions essentially incinerated. All the people responsible for it are still in power, many of them with their reputations rehabilitated by the media for merely opposing Trump.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2021-08-21

Ure comment is a bit hyperbolic maybe, but basically yeah.
The end result of a victorious war (US companies get all the resources for example) would just be a nice bonus. The root motivation for these wars is weapons makers and other companies that supply the military + all their friends getting literally trillions of dollars from US government.
US government is the ultimate cash cow. Military-industrial complex, prison-industrial complex, *corn industry* etc. have just figured out with the right relationship with US government u can expand your business to ridiculous proportions.. You get money which you can invest back into bribes and lobbying to get even more money. Its unfortunate that the business of two of those examples happens to be bombing people and also throwing them in jail.

Hazelnut - 2021-08-22

"Hm, I wonder how I can turn this horrible tragedy into more pro-Trump propaganda?"
Ashtar

Crackersmack - 2021-08-22

where do you get the idea that any of what I posted was pro Trump? you all are sick in the head with this shit

yogarfield - 2021-08-19

If we're going to find some humor in this, it would be the outrage they have when they realize their prancing gives off severely repressed homosexual vibes.

ashtar. - 2021-08-19

Us taking 20 years, spending enough money to send all American homeless people to a Mars colony, killing hundreds of thousands of people, and accomplishing basically nothing is pretty funny.

yogarfield - 2021-08-19

Kind of my point?

Cena_mark - 2021-08-20

We could've had high speed rail.

ashtar. - 2021-08-20

"Think of all the trains we could have had" was probably how they convinced Joe to pull the plug on the forever war.

ashtar. - 2021-08-22

lol at hazelnut hating fun

teethsalad - 2021-08-22

congrats on falling for the initial taliban PR blitz

i'm sure it'll be a real hoot when they're blowing up all the statues, censoring the shit out of everything, and forcing women back into the dark ages. but you're only interested in afghanistan & afghani human rights to the point you can use it to critique the united states for your laundry list of grievances, so, whatever, i guess

ashtar. - 2021-08-22

I'm sure another 20 years, a couple hundred thousand more dead, and a few trillion more dollars pissed away would change things.

They don't want us there. The army we spend so much on surrendered the moment we left because the entire country fucking hates our guts.

It's really surreal to see "serious" people cribbing notes from the British mission to bring the Light Of Civilization to the savages of Darkest Africa.

ashtar. - 2021-08-22

It's also weird when I'm genuinely vibin' for team Biden, and the people who yelled at me to vote for him are upset about it.

Joe definitely has a mixed record, but this is the best foreign policy decision the US has made during my lifetime.

ashtar. - 2021-08-22

Anyway, I was referencing h-nut's onestar and downvoteing of stuff solely because people he has obsessive grudges against submitted it. Very cool and awesome! Not petty and sad at all!

Crackersmack - 2021-08-22

personally I think it's fucking rad that we've been paying for an army of 300k troops *and* an air force that basically didn't exist and we all watched that lie fall apart in front of us, I've never seen a more clear example of the fraud that is the US military in my life

mad props to Biden if we actually stay out of Afghanistan and don't just turn it into a privatized war like Iraq

yogarfield - 2021-08-23

@crackersmack Did you type this 20 years ago and just now hit send? Blackwater / Academi made a fuckload of cash in Afghanistan.

Crackersmack - 2021-08-23

yeah but you ever try to talk to a normie about Blackwater? this at least is something easy to understand and completely undeniable

yogarfield - 2021-08-25

lol at gatekeeping talk about the complexities of the privatization of war when you can't admit that Afghanistan was a privatized war. Blackwater and several other firms collectively made more in Afghanistan than Haliburton pulled in Iraq.
