We didn't have a TV until I was 6 or 7 so I missed all this stuff, which means I can fully appreciate the grimness of it as an adult.

I had antenna TV but Grandma's had Disney Channel. That pencil/crayon animation was like drugs to my lil kid mind.

This is the way to remember Bill Cosby! I was a big fan of the Captain Kangaroo show all around, and 'Captain Kangaroo' was my CB handle too.

Picture Pages was an every day before school ritual when I was a kid. The sound Ichabod makes is permanently etched in my brain.

Boomer, I was always a fan of the gross dirty guy from Slim Goodbody who showed you what not to do.

I saw Captain before school too, until I changed schools to one farther away and had to leave earlier, then I missed the show until summer. I think they changed the air time maybe from 8 am to 7?

I wrote to the Captain and got a letter and black and white printed photo back. I wrote to Captain Kangaroo, CBS Broadcast Center, New York, and the letter made it.

I remember Mortimer's sound too, and I think you could sometimes hear the actual marker squeak along with it, I thought I did.

I don't remember the dirty guy on Slim Goodbody, maybe he was for staying clean, I just know they had a cast of other characters, like a mean one for indigestion.

I'll have to do an article about Captain Kangaroo. I was pretty serious about that show, and even got back into watching it a few years later and out of its age range, and at the time thinking Captain's Place was great to teach kids.

Captain, Bob, came out as being against the 'hard sell' with toys from all the shows being pushed on kids at that time. Slim was good, and so was Cosby, loose, entertaining and kid-like himself.
