I think this has merit. It would teach kids an important part of the scientific method. Take a hypothesis, think it through, do some calculations and work out what the result might be.

Also Midas is constantly touching the air, so the atmosphere should instantly turn to gold as soon as Midas gets his powers. Also his clothes. Also when he touches a duck how does his magic discern where the duck ends and other stuff begins? Like, at an atomic level theres not much difference.
