Yeah it's real good that our unified Democratic federal government thinks that the problem with these cops is that they don't have enough money or military weaponry.

Grow the fuck up. You don't believe what you write. It's boring. Why bother?

Crackersmack - 2021-03-04

Hey you voted to do this, so I hope you're proud of what you enthusiastically contributed to.

They were part of a homless outreach team. This is the sort of community policing that Biden wants to give $300 million to fund.

Hazelnut - 2021-03-04

Ignoring Crashtar’s lazy bait above, what gets me is how formulaic and systematised police murder has gotten. Apparently all you have to do is yell ‘he’s got my gun’ and you’re in the clear — it’s like that old South Park episode where the hunters yell ‘It’s coming right at us!’

Also, the depressing, infuriating YouTube comments.

Missing antisemitism tag

Hazelnut - 2021-03-05

Fuck off back to Parler

Gmork - 2021-03-05

SolRos attempt to minimize prejudice using intellectually bankrupt arguments shocks exactly nobody

ashtar. - 2021-03-04

This is 100% exactly how police are trained and the job they are expected to do.

If someone isn't willing to give you an ID and/or take a ticket, you go hands on. If someone shows pre-assault indicators, you go hands on. If someone goes for your gun you use deadly force.

Not trying to defend the cops here, but if you're not in favor of firing every cop in the country and dramatically changing every aspect of the criminal justice system, you're not actually against this sort of thing, because this is how that whole system works.

SolRo - 2021-03-05

I’d love to visit your fantasy land. Where do I get a passport?

ashtar. - 2021-03-05

Study case law on police use of force and the training program at police academies?

SolRo - 2021-03-06

So what does your fantastical country do about violent crime? Does it just not exist anymore because all cops are gone?

ashtar. - 2021-03-06

I am not proposing a solution to either police violence or crime in society, I am just pointing out that this instance of police violence is exactly how police are supposed to operate.

Either:
1. Accept this as regrettable, but normal.
or
2. Fundamentally change the criminal justice system.

I'm not trying to ague 2 here, and there's actually a pretty strong case for 1 in this instance. What makes me mad is people using this sort of tragedy for clicks and virtue points while actually being very opposed to changing the system that results in this sort of thing happening.

SolRo - 2021-03-06

You said the only choice is get rid of all cops or support all cops.

Don’t backtrack after someone points out how stupid you are.

ashtar. - 2021-03-06

If you want cops to stop carrying guns, or not use deadly force when there is a deadly force threat, you're going to have to fire almost all current cops. The "your number #1 priority is going home at the end of your shift" and "if something is a threat to that you shoot it" is one of the core tenants of law enforcement training.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2021-03-07

Not trying to defend the cops here, but ashtar is so stupid, I have to wonder how he hasn't forgotten how to breathe.

Mind you, I'm not saying that firing every cop wouldn't be helpful, if you could somehow do that. But the idea that if you're not willing to advocate firing every single law enforcement officer, you're not against murder is just military grade stupid.

ashtar. - 2021-03-07

In this incident:

Cops saw someone doing something illegal.
They stopped him.
He was uncooperative.
They went hands on to prevent him from leaving (pushing, etc.).
He continued to not comply with their lawful orders and showed signs of aggression.
They tackled him to effect an arrest.
He grabbed one of the deputies' guns.
They shot him, since they were wrestling on the ground with a guy with a gun.

Pretty clearly, at no point was their use of force unreasonable under Graham v. Connor. This is exactly how cops are supposed to use force. This case was 100% by the book.

Unless you want to fundamentally change how police use force, you're not going to change the outcome of cases like this. Cops are pretty heavily invested in the current use of force standards.

But hey, since you're so smart, how much sensitivity training would it take to have prevented any part of this?

SolRo - 2021-03-07

Pretty sure we all want to fundamentally change police use of force policies.

Buuuut you said anything short of firing every single cop in a country with more guns than people would mean we support street executions by mini Judge Dredds

ashtar. - 2021-03-07

Jesus Christ. HOW DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE THEM in a way that would prevent this kind of police killing? End QI? Change the Graham reasonable officer standard? Disarm cops?

How much do you think cops are going to fight against policies that are an attempt to put their lives at risk or put them in jail for doing their jobs (as they'll see it)? How well do you think cops are going to implement the new policies?

Again, Jesus Christ. I'm just repeating the same very simple point over and over. I'm confident you guys will eventually get it, though! Keep trying!

teethsalad - 2021-03-07

bahahahahahaha

SolRo - 2021-03-07

This is way more fun than blocking them.

ashtar. - 2021-03-07

Ok, you got me. You pretending to be real dumb sure got under my skin real good there. Fair enough.

I just want to say that I really admire your commitment to the "I'm a big dumb idiot" bit. A lesser troll would have probably broken character by now, but you've been posting here for what, a decade? and not a crack in the facade. Kudos.

SolRo - 2021-03-07

It’s not an act to point out how unworkable your dumb idea to fire every cop is.

But I it is very fun watching you trying to squirm back and forth on your absolutist line.

ashtar. - 2021-03-08

Pretending that refusing to understand or engage with the relevant issues is some sort of brilliant technique again shows your commitment to the whole bit, for which you should be applauded.
