Needs a Norma Tanega tag.

How do people make videos like this? Easy to obtain the source material as a streaming service or whatever, easy to extract clips, but is someone watching the entire series with a spreadsheet just noting the times when someone uses a variant of the word 'death'? That seems so boring and time consuming. Or is there some speech recognition software that helps?

The speech recognition software has been around for quite some time, all you have to do is scan all the video data and just type in the word dead somewhere

Evolution Control Committee does a jam mix like this with Dan Rather that's more interesting. This is sadder, I used the din to think about how there are people who must have watched every episode of this, every week. Someone had to write the dialog, announce it and mix it down.

Another video went through all Metallica songs, with a tally of how many times death, die, dying are used in their songs.

"The network was originally founded in 1984 as the Arts & Entertainment Network, initially focusing on fine arts, documentaries (including its then-flagship series Biography), and dramas (including imported series from the United Kingdom). In 1995, the network rebranded as A&E, in an effort to downplay the negative perceptions of arts programming and generally market the network as a "thought-provoking" alternative to other television channels. In 2002, at the expense of its arts programming, A&E began to gradually focus more on reality series to attract younger viewers.[1] By 2017, the network had also phased out scripted programs, making reality shows its primary focus."

lol, remember when we pretended to aspire to not be a garbage civilization?

I posted this to the video itself proper, it's just too good not to share

No, and I've got a pretty good memory.

Ever since MAGA became a thing, these endless narratives about the decline of culture and civilization have chapped my ass. Star Trek Lower Decks is pretty bad, so we weave a tale about how adult animation is going to hell. Etc. There's a movie from 1935 on YouTube. I haven't seen it, but the title "Mississippi" does not bode well, and the comments are all angry because they just don't make movies like that anymore.

Some thing are certainly worse,, but I would submit that TV is a lot better now than in 1984

And the original A&E business model failed for the same reasons that blockbuster video failed.
