5 for dehydrated vs healthy pee color

this thing looks pretty nifty, too

exy - 2020-06-11

HUH, and today I learned that if you assign a vid tags A, B, and C, where C = "[A] [B]", tag C kinda links itself to A and B, or something. poetv tag antics are quasi fascinating

casualcollapse - 2020-06-12

But that's how they should work right?

exy - 2020-06-12

I don't know, should they?

Who are you, who is so wise in the teleology of tags?

casualcollapse - 2020-06-13

I don't know, I've been on this website since it linked to portalofevil though so will you think I would know..alas

SolRo - 2020-06-11

pretty awesome but, how is the resin technology currently?

the heated plastic printers can shit out very durable parts while this resin seems very weak on thin objects

Architeuthis Tux - 2020-06-11

There's a billion different resins you can use in these.

You can resin print fireable ceramic parts at this point. It's a question of how much money you want to spend and how many extra toys you want around to get results with.

SolRo - 2020-06-12

I’m going to have to get one of these eventually if I keep owning cars from 20+ years ago. So many little plastic pieces break and aren’t available anymore or only as part of a very overpriced assembly.

casualcollapse - 2020-06-12

I strongly recommend you go through with this purchase, these things are fucking great for tiny little bits of crap like that that tend to break..

Mister Yuck - 2020-06-12

What's the learning curve like for designing your own parts?

Architeuthis Tux - 2020-06-13

The hardest thing in making your own parts is figuring out what software to use. All the major packages have enormous quantities of tutorials and educational resources.

A lot of how you'll get on with anything is dependent on your experience with 3d software. If you've used standard CG tools, something like Fusion 360 will feel like you're wearing boots for gloves. It's also free to use if you aren't making money with it.

There's also now an entirely free version of ZBrush, which also has an interface that will cause you pain if you're familiar with other 3d tools, but vanishes once you learn it.

Beyond that, it's the particulars of designing whatever thing you're designing.

jfcaron_ca - 2021-06-04

I highly recommend OpenSCAD if you already know programming and high-school math (trigonometry mostly). You make the designs by writing code. The code defines basic shapes and unions/differences of these shapes are composed to make complex stuff. It's also free and open-source, and the documentation is pretty good.

Old_Zircon - 2020-06-12

I had a kidney stone 20 years ago; that thing at 1:50 is what you have to pee through until you pass the kidney stone, to catch it for analysis.

Hope this guy's kidney stones have improved.

poorwill - 2020-06-12

tempting, but the resin looks like a nightmare to deal with - if i take the plunge it will probably be for a filament printer.

exy - 2020-06-12

There's also the note he slips in about the stench.

Mother Lumper - 2020-06-12

The fumes from SLA printers are incredibly toxic and venting is a must. I don't feel they're quite there yet for consumer use.

I have a few filament printers, even involving PLA which is probably the most innocuous of the plastics to work with I keep a fan running overhead to divert fumes into an unused crawlspace.

SolRo - 2020-06-12

There are reports of filament printers putting out tons of emissions of various toxicity and carcinogenicity

exy - 2020-06-12

RIP all John Maclaines of Mother Lumper's home plaza

Architeuthis Tux - 2020-06-13

In my experience, resin prints are no worse than working with any commercial casting plastics. If you're not used to working with things like silicone molds and 2-part epoxies, it can seem really intimidating, but it's mostly a question of making and using checklists for order of operations. Ventilation is important no matter which tech. Also, there are a zillion different resins and not all of them are equally gag-inducingly VOC throwing.

Filament printers definitely produce more durable stuff more easily, but there's no comparison with detail, and in some circumstances, speed.

MSLA prints at a linear speed, regardless of the part complexity. So if you have ten things around the build plate, it takes the same amount of time as one thing. Filament printers have to move the print head, so more detail = more printing time.

casualcollapse - 2020-06-13

Well hopefully you can get the same resolution for around the same price with that tech

Binro the Heretic - 2020-06-12

We're getting closer to the future I was promised as a kid.

If we could focus on undersea cities instead of flying cars, that would be great.

SolRo - 2020-06-12

We’re going to get underwater cities soon enough

exy - 2020-06-13

ok, that was pretty funny, solro
