It's the writing. It's the way Ren and Stimpy cartoon absurdity interacts with real, often dark motives. Rick turning himself into a pickle is a dumb premise. Rick turning himself into a pickle TO AVOID FAMILY THERAPY? That's gold. One of my favorite examples is the Sisyphus-like ups and downs of Beth and Jerry's marriage. Compared to famous TV off and on couples like Sam and Diane, and Ross and Rachel, this fictional couple rings a lot more true, it's more character driven than situation-driven, but it involves cartoon/sci-fi plot points like marriage counseling on another planet, and Jerry dating a psychobitch from outer space. Shit like that is satisfying, and it really stands up to multiple viewings. Thank God we've got a new season coming. I hope Mr. Poopybutthole hasn't died of old age in the meantime.

it's just a cartoon. it's kinda funny. it's not very intellectual, and I haven't actually seen a real example of a fan being like "iTs OnLy FoR sMaRt PeOpLe HURRRR" which is the main complaint I hear leveled against the series (or more accurately the dumber portion of its fans)

I thought Roilands 'Roiland TV' stuff was really funny. He's just a funny guy imo.
Its sad to see his funny juice wasted on such an unfunny show with its character arcs and 'story cirlces' and script-writing 101 boringness.

Its like Conan spending all that time talking to celebs.
