On one hand, it's a smart move to attack Trump for his (by far) worst moment. That quote will go down in history as one of the most under-researched quotes ever. My theory is that Trump reacted under the assumption that the Unite the Right rally included non racists, but it was almost exclusively white supremacists. On the other hand, using Hitler as an argument almost never works. It hasn't worked against Trump so far and it won't in the debates.

They're the most ideological, least intellectually honest attention whores in America, and they can make Trump dance to whatever tune they think will promote their brand, with little risk to their phoney baloney jobs. If Bernie Sanders gets elected in 2020, Fox News will probably get a bigger audience share, and you don't get attention as a right wing pundit by being thoughtful and measured.

Trump's wagon is hitched to this crazy horse, because he hitched it there, and now he has nowhere else to go. A third of America loves him, because he's been telling half of America to go fuck themselves. He's incredibly popular, but if he reaches out to the 55 per cent of Americans who disapprove of him, they're not about to trust, and his base will turn on him. He's not just fucked. He fucked himself.

Trump isn't the master salesman who sold us the idea of himself as an infallible self-made business genius. That was the producers of The Apprentice, who say they thought of it as a joke. This guy couldn't get a loan anymore. He was doing commercials for McDonalds. He's Ronald McDonald. He's Tony the Tiger.

And he's committed crimes. Quite openly, actually. And how is he trying to get out of that? By declaring more and more power, just like Nixon tried to do, but without pretending to care about the law. If he manages to save himself by breaking the back of Constitutional government, I'm not going to consider him a successful president for that.

So your theory is that Trump is an idiot who, before addressing the nation as President after a national tragedy, didn't bother to learn anything about the tragedy other than, perhaps, what he'd seen on Fox and Friends. Yeah, that checks out.

He didn't mention Hitler. He talked about something that happened in the state of Virginia, in 2017, in the State of Virginia. He described it accurately, and then gave an appraisal that I happen to agree with.

I'm not crazy about Biden as a candidate. I don't think he's a pervert, but I do think his overt familiarity does represent male privilege, and it's a valid criticism.
