There’s a brilliant angle to this, and that is Springfield USA at Universal. They want that Harry Potter bad, and they’ll do to Universal what they did to Sony to get it.
It's like the final nail in the coffin in this show was put in ten years ago, but they just decided to drop a crate of nails on top of the coffin and have slowly been blowtorching the nails to melt in a giant slab of molten metal around the coffin and the remains of the husk of the show inside it.
In the original ten years of the golden era, they would mock Disney sentiments mercilessly. Now we're entering an era where no animated property can just be its own thing. They referenced a classic Simpsons episode with the overlords line. And then it went in the reverse direction of any kind of satirical edge. The Simpsons originally thrived off of making fun of people for the average, run of the mill way they would suck up to power. The Simpsons mocked sycophants. They mocked corporate culture changing products to appeal to a sense of homogeneity. Homogeneity being both comforting and stifling at the same time. And the old writers knew this a long time ago.
This was so uncomfortable to watch. It feels like it's from another universe.
