It's interesting because in small amounts it puts frogs and amphibians into hibernation if I'm remembering correctly

Lol yeah this stuff
We had a big jar of sodium sulfide that was like 30 years old. Most of the sodium sulfide had been used ages ago, and ALL of the water in the air trapped in the jar was pulled into the sulfide, making big sloshy crystals and a whole pile of H2S. It stunk pretty bad.
A guy needed to use this, and I took one look at it and said 'okay but those crystals are hydrated to some extent, you're going to have problems with the stoichiometry for your reaction. Also don't tip the bottle please it's full of poison gas', but he didn't listen to me. I never saw him again so I assume he died.
