Amusingly, it might have only lost all that money because of another Disney movie.

Wrinkle came out only three weeks after Black Panther. Apparently the Mouse assumed BP would only top the box office for one week, maybe two with some luck, and then flame out in time to make room for their next all-ages CGI flick. Instead, BP was the top movie in the country for five straight weeks and everything else released in that time got swamped in its wake. Disney played themselves.

But then again, Black Panther made roughly half a billion in profit so the $86 million lost on Wrinkle probably didn't keep Disney's bosses up at night.
