I doubt Mueller is in danger of being assassinated. There isn't really an upside to doing so; Mueller has an entire team of lawyers around him that are also (presumably) highly skilled, aware of the long term plan, and equally brave.

Basically, if they kill Mueller, some member of Mueller's hand-picked team will pick up the torch.

The only thing Putin cares about is making the West look as dumb and corrupt as his own nation. Everything Russia does it does in order to keep it's corrupt Oligarchical system in place, they don't care about anything else.

The strategy is convincing Russia that democracy is deeply corrupt by default, so they have to choose between liberal faggy Western democracy and manly super-hetero Orthodox Russian democracy. Whatever happens next can only benefit them, everything that is proved about their meddling can be spinned as Putin being this Machiavelli Sun-Tsu, trolling the West or the West always blaming Russia for their own internal problems (the classic Putinist projection tactic).

Putin has already "won". It's easy for Putin to win, insofar as it's easier to tear down than to build up. But what Russia has won itself is the distrust of every nation on Earth, ranging from contempt to terror depending on how physically near the Bear is -- as a result, it's won itself a future as China's little bitch.

I don't think Trump had to be blackmailed over debts or screwing hookers or anything like that.

I think all Russia had to do was offer to make him dictator for life if he helped them take over America. Even though there's no way they could pull that off and there's no chance they would put Trump in charge even if they did somehow manage to do it, Trump is fool enough to leap at the chance to be a strongman like Putin.
