I like how there's now this whole subgenre of Youtube videos where the thesis is, "I'm a miserable fuck who refuses to enjoy anything that doesn't star someone who looks like me and I will go to tremendous lengths to find an excuse to hate those things, because not enjoying myself while everyone else has a good time somehow makes me the winner."

I saw this over the weekend, I really liked it, it's a really good Marvel film and really well made, visually interesting and all that, but I think it's kind of hilarious that Wakanda is supposed to be this super enlightened, technologically advanced society that possesses the capability to basically destroy the world if they wanted to, and yet they choose their leaders with physical combat which is fucking retarded and basically nearly leads to the end of the world.

Roughly half the fantasy novels ever written are about overthrowing a bad king and replacing him with a good king, and at no point does anyone ever say, "Wait a minute, this is stupid, what if we just got rid of kings altogether, otherwise we're probably just going to end up overthrowing the good king's evil son in 30 years."
Eight years of people worldwide getting invested in who'll win Game of Thrones but guess what, it's all meaningless because 98% of Westeros will still be poor and starving no matter who gets to sit on the Pointy Chair.

A democratic system can be no better than the citizens of that country, and since this country has garbage people, it makes sense that it produces garbage. I'm not saying that physical combat or hereditary monarchy are *better* systems. I'm just saying they're no worse.
