This left me with too many questions to list.

I will answer one: Carmine Ragusa was the equivalent of Fonzie over on "Laverne and Shirley" (which was a "Happy Days" spinoff). But L&S was a strange cross of sitcom and variety show -- every few episodes there was some event or other that required characters to sing and dance on stage -- so Carmine's deal was, he was a very light-on-his-feet boxer who rarely boxed (on the show anyway) and mostly sang and danced.

I keep watching 3:14 - 3:30 and thinking, "I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, but I'm afraid my walk has become rather sillier recently".

How innocent was the American viewing public when this originally aired, I wonder. How many immediately saw through "necking" as a metaphor for gang rape?

"Happy Days" lived in a weird universe where sex was icky. For example, Fonzie dated only girls who were "untried" (that was his euphemism) -- apparently he felt sex would sully the enjoyment of kissing.

There was an episode of "Laverne and Shirley" where Laverne had sex, though: she got drunk at a Shotz Brewery party and apparently got raped while she was asleep. This was not a Very Special Episode, her getting raped was just one of those wacky things that happens. The big question was whether Laverne was pregnant or not (she wasn't).

For the record: the 70's were not the auguries of innocence, by any stretch of the imagination. That was the whole point of the show.
