Yeah, I hate how fight scenes suck in most movies today, with their extreme close ups, shaky cams, and abundance of cuts. This fight scene isn't amazing, but it still tops most fight scenes we see today.

jfcaron_ca - 2017-08-10

My favourite fight scene is between Carradine and Stalone in Death Race 2000. It's so slow and awkward, like a real fight.

rhythm rider - 2017-08-10

THEY LIVE.

does anybody else think that PoeTV has experienced grade inflation? I remember back in the day people would 3 star vids for purely existential, intangible reasons. they just lacked that je ne se pas

and if anything warrants a discussion of grade inflation, it's MK: The Movie. it's great, but no, not a 5 star movie.

Raggamuffin - 2017-08-10

I've only 3 starred videos twice ever. It's usually 5 or nothing for me.

Cena_mark - 2017-08-10

There's only two ratings, 5 star and 1 star.

Youtube switched from 1-5 stars to a binary like/dislike system. That's just how people function. It's just POETV. I'm not going to fuss over whether a clip deserves one or two stars taken away. It's just like or dislike.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-08-10

Cena, these are for you.

Born in the RSR - 2017-08-11

Five for Cena!

Toot toot toot toooooooot!

(this means I agree with him)

infinite zest - 2017-08-11

We should just have those little charts like they have in Hospitals with the "1-10" faces that go from ecstasy to agony.

rhythm rider - 2017-08-14

rating used to be slightly harsher here. i think it hurts the site because the gems don't stand out as well.

casualcollapse - 2017-08-10

I member!!!

The Mothership - 2017-08-10

I completely forgot about this scene. How could anybody forget about this scene?

blue vein steel - 2017-08-10

This is still the best video game movie adaptation

blue vein steel - 2017-08-10

i know that's not saying much, but it at least knew what it was and didn't take itself seriously, which is why I think it still holds up as a fun late-night B movie.

StanleyPain - 2017-08-10

Pretty much. It never had pretentious about being something other than a video game story.

William Burns - 2017-08-10

I agree. Street Fighter is also a legit good pg-13 action movie. Max Payne, Mario and Doom are all enjoyable to some extent.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-08-10

Whichever Resident Evil movie had the Nemesis monster was good fun.

Louddetective - 2017-08-10

Some years back I did a double feature of MK and Street Fighter. That was a good time.

infinite zest - 2017-08-11

Street Fighter will always have a special place in my heart because not only was it Raul Julia's final movie, but he also reportedly did it only because his grandkids were so damn excited about it. For me anyway, that at least makes it the cinematic equivalent of Neil Young's Trans. Also in the arcade version you can play with Kylie Minogue, which has been a dream of mine since age 12.

Gmork - 2017-08-11

nah the first Silent Hill takes it by a mile

infinite zest - 2017-08-12

Yeah I kinda got dragged to the first Silent Hill, but I was optimistic since I really did like the director's other work at the time, Brotherhood of the Wolf. But then you're dealing with the opposite problem. In MK it's building a plot that doesn't really need to be there, and in SH (or Final Fantasy) it's the opposite, to fit a batshit complex Konami/Square plot into a 90 minute film, on top of managing to fit as much gameplay mechanics in there as possible. Like, for anyone who's ever said that Metal Gear would be a better movie, seriously think about what that implies. That's not to say that I totally hated Silent Hill though.

Hooker - 2017-08-10

To be fair, this has a lot of the problems that modern fight scenes have: frequent cuts, cutting away from the impact of hits, close-ups that obscure the hit, total lack of perspective for either character in the scene, etc. There are _far_ better kung fu scenes to make this point with.

Hegemony Cricket - 2017-08-10

Dear god, yes. The four edits needed to cover the wire work flip is a nice underscore to your point.

This is an average fight scene from a shit movie that I loved for what it was at the time of its release. The film as a whole has aged even worse because we have gotten better than this in almost every sphere.

There are a number of solid flicks from the last few years that put the lie to this whole, "Things ain't what they used to be!" regressive assholery. John Wick or The Raid being solid examples.

Hell, fucking Marvel TV shows have better choreographed, shot, and edited fight scenes these days -- and I'm including Agents of Shield in that shit heap.

Nominal - 2017-08-11

yup

MurgatroidMendelbaum - 2017-08-10

For God's sake, the man's blood combusts in contact with the atmosphere.

kingofthenothing - 2017-08-10

You ever wonder if Scorpion jerks off into his own hand-vagina? You know he does. How does he ever get any work done?

SolRo - 2017-08-10

I don't think he does.

Would you stick your dick into a flap that has that bitey spear thing already making it its home?

I think this also explains why scorpion is so angry....I know I would be.

Caminante Nocturno - 2017-08-11

This movie had a great soundtrack, too.

poorwill - 2017-08-11

no it doesn't

William Burns - 2017-08-11

Yes, it does.

poorwill - 2017-08-11

no it doesn't

infinite zest - 2017-08-11

I was going to say that I still love the soundtrack but looking back the only two songs that I listened to were KMFDM's and Typo O Negative's. I will give the soundtrack props though because while George Clinton's songs sucked, it was my first exposure to his music and I went out and bought Maggot Brain which will forever be one of my favorite albums.

Likewise The Crow soundtrack vicariously introduced me to Joy Division.

Raggamuffin - 2017-08-11

This soundtrack was hugely popular, and filled with cool music as was the style at the time for big genre flicks since The Crow soundtrack was so popular (and was legitimately awesome). The MK soundtrack had some great stuff on it, but was a little thin and relied on filler they tacked into the soundtrack that wasn't actually in the movie. Still has a special place in my heart for introducing me to KMFDM and Orbital as a kid.

betamaxed - 2017-08-11

1. I love this scene, so 5 stars
2. This is the best scene of the movie, so 5 stars
3. I should emote to 4 stars for not having a Fear Factory tag but who cares?

casualcollapse - 2020-12-04

Well I love you Beta and you're going to have to live with that
