McCain certainly is a class act. In the sense that he acts like he as class when it's politically expedient. He also behaves like a total dipshit when it benefits him.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-21

Five stars for the Last Decent Republican, and the only GOP presidential candidate I ever thought about voting for. It was probably never going to happen, but I had to stop and give it a moment's thought, out of respect, and because I could see McCain and the Democratic congress we had back then doing some good work. Of course, that was before he picked his looney vice president, and, frankly, having voted for every Democrat since Jimmy Carter, I wasn't going to spend the rest of my life explaining how I'd switched just as the black guy came along.

There was a story about John McCain on This American Life that really made me fall in love with the guy. Maybe I can find it.

gravelstudios - 2017-07-21

I remember thinking during the 2008 election that, under different circumstances, I could vote for McCain with a clear conscience. And then he did just about everything since then to make me glad I didn't.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2017-07-22

Agreed. So glad I didn't!

bawbag - 2017-07-21

Fuck McCain.

The guy who left his model wife because she became disabled in a car crash and wasn't cute any more, the guy who voted enthusiastically for piles of dead iraqi babies, the guy who talked tough about how bad torture was but then voted to allow it so long as it was on 'enemy combatants'.

The guy who crashed his plane, cooked off ordnance and set fire to his ship, killing hundreds while he sat in the ready room not helping to douse the flames?

A dude who has literally said one thing and done the opposite for his entire career?

I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone, but 100%

fuck
this
guy

5 for the evil media rewriting of this horrible cunt's life and career.

McCain was, without question, the guy who got the ball rolling on weaponizing the extreme right wing nativism in this country in a way that hadn't been tried in a long time. The Pandora's Box of Republicans openly courting racism and irrational hate as a political philosophy in the 21st century was undoubtedly opened up by him and his 2008 campaign. And, I'm sorry, but NO ONE who allowed the extreme right to take control of their campaign and allow Sarah Palin to come anywhere near any serious seat in the US Government deserves any sort of respect in their life for anything ever unless they make a series of extreme, heartfelt apologies and actions to undo what they have done, and McCain doesn't fit any of those bills. He has never apologized for what he has helped do to this country and how low he has brought all Americans. Maybe the tumor can be blamed for SOME of that. Maybe. But not all of it....and he deserves not a jot of sympathy whatsoever.
Let us not forget that the treatments he is receiving are probably going to cost well over $100,000 (conservatively) just to get the ball rolling enough to where he can come back to work, and god knows how much after that. How many Americans TODAY, on the very day I write this, are being told they have brain tumors and being told "you're fucked" because of the policies of McCain's party and their (and his) insistance on punishing Americans for simply not being them by condemning everyone to little or no healthcare. How many people will die when the ACA is eventually defunded and gutted to purposefully kill people? How many will die when the GOP starts another pointless war to take attention away from the dumpster fire that is Trump? McCain has done NOTHING whatever to distance himself from any of this. He is a GOP stooge whose heart was eroded into sociopathy, hatred, and self-absorption long ago.
Fuck this guy. The Earth will breathe a small sigh of relief when he shuffles off this mortal coil.

That RS article is something else. Yowza

Spaceman Africa - 2017-07-21

no he won't

Bort - 2017-07-21

John McCain, private citizen, has my support and my best wishes. Hope he manages to beat this cancer, but failing that, I hope he makes it longer than expected and remains lucid and pain-free for as long as possible.

Senator McCain, R-AZ, has devoted the past decades to hurting most of the people of the United States. There is only one act he could perform at this point that might make me respect him, and that is denouncing Republicans in the harshest terms possible, including owning up to his own complicity. At this point he's got so little to lose, he really has no reason not to do the decent thing. But, I doubt he will.

betabox - 2017-07-21

Some Republicans have claimed that his cancer is punishment from god for not being sufficiently conservative. If that doesn't make him see reason, nothing can.

Bort - 2017-07-26

He so didn't do the honorable thing.

He is going to die soon, and he's going to have to understand that he is actively hated, for cause. Even Republican voters are not enthused about Trumpcare.

Ted Kennedy cast a vote for Obamacare despite dying from cancer. McCain did the opposite.

Old_Zircon - 2017-07-21

Fuck cancer but also fuck McCain.

Cena_mark - 2017-07-21

McCain made a public statement saying he'd fight his cancer, but later he voted in favor of it.

Space Odin - 2017-07-22

Just remember -- Betsy DeVos was confirmed only by a margin of one vote.

Guess who voted yes?

(Note -- special shoutout to Lisa Murkowski who voted "no" even though she took money from her in the past. Those were some balls of fuckin' steel right there).

Raggamuffin - 2017-07-21

I'm echoing what everyone else is saying. I'm sorry he has cancer, but as a man and a politician, fuck this guy.

What I can add is: McCain gets all this credit as a nobel voice of reason because of the town hall in this video, but everyone has forgotten that this happened in the middle of October. By this point his campaign was in shambles and was in a death spiral. He was just trying to lose with some grace. The rest of the year, when it looked like the tea party shit was could help him win, he was perfectly willing to let it continue.

Two Jar Slave - 2017-07-22

This is my memory of it. I believe the original Poetv video is titled something like "Frankenstein attempts to kill his monster". He had fanned this flame to its hottest and could now barely bring himself to pee on it.

Anyway, cancer sucks and nobody deserves it.

Maggot Brain - 2017-07-21

John McCain; Respected by some, reviled by others, free miniature American flags for all! (plus the cost of shipping)

Cena_mark - 2017-07-21

I think he had brain cancer back in 2008 when he chose Palin for a running mate.

15th - 2017-07-21

Only the good die young. :(

cognitivedissonance - 2017-07-22

Fuck him. He started this entire iceberg with his Hail Mary week in late October, 2008. He gave Sarah Palin a platform. He did the light saber waving speech where he compared his political career to a science fiction movie for children. This is all on his shoulders and then he has the unmitigated gall to pretend to be the Last Grown-Up. I hope it's a notably painful, lingering death.

Space Odin - 2017-07-22

I finally turned on John McCain in season 3 when he poisoned people on that planet for working with the Cylons.

Chocolate Jesus - 2017-07-25

DIE FUCKING BABYKILLER. I HOPE THEY SLICE YOUR BRAIN INTO SWISS CHEESE.
