I distinctly recall seeing the original My Little Pony movie at a free Christmas showing, billed with the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie, at Yard Birds Theater in Chehalis, Washington, circa 1987 or so.

The Alvin and the Chipmunks movie was a beautiful mess. Bunch of squeaky monster children partying with a bunch of racial stereotypes for 90 minutes. I love it.

I initially read that as "sectaurian fandom conflict", then realized the humans in the Equestria Girls world have taken on the characteristics of ponies. Having ponies in that world grow to frightening proportions is something I can see Hasbro doing.
