Well shit, if I knew they were that hard off for cash I would have bought one off them for $100 or let one of their employees crash on my couch for a week in exchange for a lightly used one.
This version that you always see (the huge bricks with 36+ barrels) were intended as missile defense weapons and were being considered for a brief time by the US Navy, as they came out when fire control systems for that type of thing weren't nearly as sophisticated as they are now.
They also had some more practical versions, like disposable grenade launcher tubes, which actually got purchased by the Navy on what I assume was a trial basis.
