Iceland is a country I would be not embarrassed to be a citizen of.

-Bjork: Good
-Serious problems with inbreeding: Bad
-900 years of continuous legislation against slavery (a world record): Good
-Generally no sense of humour: Bad

I'd say it comes up about even!

Imo they totally have a sense of humor, and very importantly a healthy dose of 'dont give a fuck' attitude.

Seems they are fairly closely related to us Irish. I could totally see it (ps. I was there a few weeks ago)

Genetic analysis has shown that a quarter of the men and up to half of the women among the founding population would have been of "Gaelic" origin.

The Irish comparison is a good one, in that both countries' governments have become tax havens for international corporations and encouraged the gas and fossil fuel industries to run wild, all at the expense of their citizenry (outside of a couple wealthy neighborhoods in their major cities).

Went to Reykjavik a few years ago for the Iceland Airwaves music festival. Amazing country, beautiful landscapes, and the people are all very nice. Everyone under the age of 40 or so speaks perfectly fluent English and there isn't any real anti-americanism. Things are not as expensive as you'd think they'd be (as long as you are eating local stuff) because, at the time, their economy was going through a big recession and the exchange rate on the Krona is pretty favorable.

The whole inbreeding thing isn't a super big deal, although there is a very common Iceland specific phone app that will check the genealogy of a potential partner to make sure you're at least as distant as 3rd cousins. You do start recognizing similar facial features and the like after spending a little time there, though.

Unfortunately, it's apparently very very difficult yo emigrate to.

Five stars for finally telling me how to pronounce "Bjork".

Björk, B-52's and Devo are the three bands/artists that I had the biggest misconceptions. I don't think I'm alone in that, luckily I figured out they are way-rad.

Her flipping out on the reporter may have had a wee bit to do with the fact that a series of videotapes had recently been discovered, showing a stalker obsessing over her and planning a mailbomb that would have doused her in sulfuric acid.

How are you going to make a list of the "Bjorkiest" moments and not mention her brief marriage to Space Ghost?
