Someone was kind enough to put most of the 2016 awards show's important moments on Youtube, and this is the first time I've seen that happen. It makes me really want to attend the Hugos someday, they seem like a very cool bunch of people.

I have no idea who the British woman in the red dress is, though.

I am glad that the presenters maintained their decorum

I'm a little disappointed N. K. Jemisin didn't accept the award. I've seen her accept another award and she gave one of the best speeches I've ever heard.

Chuck Tingle wasn't even nominated this year? Boo!

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2017-03-23

He actually was! Chuck was nominated for Space Raptor Butt Invasion! It was a huge accomplishment on his part. HUUUUUUUUUUGE.

But the category was for Short Story and not Novel. There are four fiction categories based on length.

Getting further into why this is SO great, the Sad Puppies tried to get him nominated only because they wanted to irritate the rest of the Hugo establishment. But it backfired because everyone already really liked Chuck. In addition, Chuck responded to the controversy by writing such titles as "Slammed In The Butt By Domald Tromp's Attempt To Avoid Accusations Of Plagiarism By Removing All Facts Or Concrete Plans From His Republican National Convention Speech" and "Domald Tromp Pounded In The Butt By His Fabricated Wiretapping Scandal Made Up To Redirect Focus Away From His Seemingly Endless Unethical Connections To Russia". And yes, those are real titles.

Larry Correia is a whiny cunt who thinks he's persecuted because his work didn't get nominated when he wanted, because he's conservative. But he's the only one who cares about that when considering the nominations even remotely. The whole accusation of Hugo voters only voting for NK Jemisin and Nnedi Okorafor because they are black is ludicrous and anyone who has read their work knows this. All of the videos of the winners this year prove that there is a lot of diversity at the Hugos (and Nebulas) but I think it has more to do with the fact that minorities as a whole have become more interested in genre fiction over the years. Chinese authors are starting to get nominations and wins. Cixin Liu for The Three Body Problem, Hao Jingfang's Folding Beijing won for novelette in 2016 as well as Nnedi for Binti (which i haven't read yet). No one accused Octavia Butler when she was alive of only winning because she was black because the industry is very good at recognizing its own talent. That having been said, there are usually dozens of authors that wind up not winning any awards who are still amazing. These people have gone to great lengths in the past few decades to reward what they feel are the most innovative works regardless of who wrote them. This has been a focal point.

My problem with Vox Day and Larry is that they are so caught up in real life politics, that they are seeing what they want to see. Larry has written some okay material (Hard Magic is the only thing I've read by him) but in publishing you have to accept that other people will get more attention to you and be at peace with that. I don't think anyone was actively trying to avoid him until the Sad Puppies bitched and moaned about everything.
