Damn. R.I.P. indeed, you were one of my favorite British actors, or any actor for that matter. Was just watching 1984 again recently and was again impressed with his Winston Smith.

Not to mention the Elephant Man...

Things will get worse before they get better.

Oh no, not again!

Yeah, this is sad, but him doing Spaceballs will always put a smile on my face. Also, the definitive 1984 adaptation. RIP John Hurt.

One of the best. One of only a handful whom I'd pay to see on film.

For the song.

Also, what is he, the fourth Harry Potter actor to go?

He was the Horned King, the baddie from the movie Disney is surprisingly more embarassed of than "Song of the South".

I think that I sort of expected that after 2016, people would stop dying. In retrospect, that seems overly optimistic.

No one has mentioned The Naked Civil Servant. Is everyone familiar with that amazing biopic about Quentin Crisp, who lived out of the closet as a cross-dressing homosexual in the 30s and 40s? I get the feeling it was Hurt's breakthrough role in England. Clip in the hopper.
