Well, to respond to that Mr Baleen, here are a few questions for you:


1) Out of China, Russia, and the United States, which country has the largest military presence on foreign soil?
2) How many foreign nations has China bombed in the last eight years? How many has Russia? How many has the United States?
3) What are the respective prison populations of China, Russia, and the United States? Which of these great powers throws more of its citizens, per capita, into jail cells?
4) For the sake of argument, assume that we (Snowden's audience) all live together in the United States. Given that we are living in the United States, which of the following areas might we have some real measure of control over (and thus, should be focusing our energy on): China, Russia, or the United States?

I think that it's a fair point that Snowden happened to seek refuge in countries that by any reasonable measure less free than the one he left. He was considering Venezuela for a while there, if I remember correctly, and that's hardly a democratic utopia. Of course, he had to go someplace, but I think I wouldn't mind his line of argument if he just up and admitted that his actions forced him to seek asylum from the United States's strategic competitors.

Snowden know more than most that the U.S. was hardly as uninterested in its citizens' lives as it seemed, but one would think that he'd be aware of his propaganda value to people utterly uninterested in his ideals. The USSR never tired of pointing out the racial inequalities of the American South. They might not have been wrong, either. But they were still an enormously repressive police state that murdered millions. There are, I think, questions of degree here.

Yeah, fuck the guy that revealed how the government under both republican and democrat administrations has been spying on its own citizens.

Let's hope none of us is deemed a potential threat to the NSA, because they'll look at our online sexual history to silence us.

Snowden might kinda be a hero for exposing the NSA (assuming that he didn't just take his oath to break it and can accurately be called a whistleblower). But he didn't get any sympathy from me for spilling the beans on how we spy on other countries (they know we do, and that's why we have a spy service). I'd also like to know what, exactly, he gave up to Putin in terms of information in exchange for asylum, beyond mere propaganda value. I'm betting it wasn't "nothing."

Your thinking isn't very organized and thus it is hard to follow what point you're trying to make. Try something like this:

4. By 1-3, conclusion.

Sad to say, it's not EvilHomer's fault: society itself has become unhinged and logical connections no longer seem to matter... if indeed they ever did. He's just being descriptive.

For example, did I miss something, where Ed has a raging hate boner for Hillary Clinton? Many seem to think so, but from my own experience, Jullian Assange hates Hillary Clinton and has acted in concert with Russia to undermine her candidacy. Not Ed Snowden. He's hiding in Russia, and has had little influence on political events today. How has Ed Snowden done anything to undermine the Clintons? But most people here ( including EvilHomer apparently ) seem to believe this conflation.

I laughed really hard at this. 2016 goes hard.

You seem to be really, really selective about what you consider "credible" and "not credible" and this seems to differ pretty substantially from most sources people consider halfway reputable. "Halfway reputable" sources aren't always right, of course, but they usually provide a pretty decent ground for discussion. Of course, once you've more-or-less defined your premises the way you'd like them, you can reach whatever conclusions you'd like. Must be fun.
