I had the NES Wizardy 1 cartridge. Pretty much every monster in this is a more or less exact copy of the version in the game.

Not shown: Hour upon hour of repetitive grinding at monster spawn points.

This OAV honestly wasn't that great, but I did love how faithful it tries to be to the original game mechanics. The items and spells used, the party finding a bunch of dead guys and just being like "oh it's cool we'll drag 'em out with us to get revived", the ninja being completely useless when he couldn't one-shot something, it's a loving homage.

Sanest Man Alive: They were a high level Samurai/Lord/Ninja party based on the OVA. It's fairly reasonable, with characters like that, to go in light if you just want to grind.

Wizardry seriously hit it big in Japan, if the scads of brutal dungeon crawlers like the Megaten and Etrian Odyssey series are any indication. Hell, the Elminage games remain almost sadistically old-school, with no automap function outside consumable items and rest-based leveling that can actually lower your characters' stats depending on their age.
