Jan Svenkmajer continues to be one of my least favorite, favorite people.

I love pretty much everything Svankmajer has done, but this is easily my favorite movie of his, bar none. It *was* on Netflix about a year ago..haven't bothered to see if it's still there. (last I checked, his version of Alice in Wonderland was, though)

To be fair, it the only Svankmajer film that can justify a feature length running time. The other feature lengths are a bit thin on plot and feel like 30 minute premises stretched thin.

Yeah, to a certain extent that's true. I think Conspirators of Pleasure worked because of the multi-story angle.

But his short films are fucking amazing. I wouldn't say greater than Quay per se, though. Possibly just descendants of the same school.
