I don't get it.

Well you see Homer, there's an obscure anime called One Punch Man. This ain't like your normie Sailor Moon crap. It's about a superhero who defeats all his enemies with one punch. It's an odd concept, but brilliantly written and hilarious too. I highly recommend it.

Sailor Moon beats most of her enemies with one attack, too. Except in later episodes, where she finishes them off with Moon Healing or something similar.

Anyway, according to The Internet, One Punch Man is a webcomic anime. That it means it's basically Homestar or Sluggy Freelance.

I dislike anime, but I really like One Punch Man. I also suspect there are anime references in it that I don't get.

The difference is Saitama (the One Punch Man) after getting so powerful is now feeling a melancholy because now no fights are a challenge. Also helps that it has a solid supporting cast, and realizes throughout that it can't take itself too seriously.

It's basically about what happens when you don't know what to do with your life; the main character always wanted to be a superhero, but he got too good at it, and now no one is strong enough to hurt him and he can kill any enemy with one punch. With all the fun and challenge taken out of his job, he becomes depressed and just kind of wanders through life in a fog, even while alien invaders and mutants and stuff constantly attack the city. The disconnect between his self-absorbed apathy and the total chaos around him makes for good comedy.

It reminds me a bit of Bojack Horseman, in that they're both cartoons that take weird but effective looks at depression.
