He's usually about 80% reasonable, 10% unreasonable, and the remainder is pure, off-the-walls entertainment. AJ is what is known in hipster circles as "a gatekeeper" - he gives you just enough truth to lure you in, then suddenly it becomes all TRUMP this and NUTRA-CEUTICAL that.

That's not what gatekeeper means.

Nominal - Well not entirely, no; sorry, perhaps I should have gone into a little more detail on that point (I was trying to keep it "short" ::embarrassed fluttershy gif::). Gatekeepers are opinion-shapers; individuals who control access to information, and determine what information you, the audience, will and will not focus on. A good gatekeeper (on the ground level; not talking specifically about billionaires here) needs to be charismatic, rhetorically-skilled, and at least somewhat credible - this way, people will keep coming back to him for his opinions. You need to establish trust, and get your audience interested in what you have to say. The trouble is, most (if not all) gatekeepers have ulterior motives - agendas they want to push, agendas which may not always be able to rest on facts and appeals to reason alone. In this case, they must also become spoilers; spoiling the water by dropping little pieces of bullshit in with their truths, redirecting the conversation into channels that are better suited for their agenda.

That's Alex Jones. AJ's basically emerged as the gatekeeper for what establishment rightwing types want the anti-war, Truther, and anti-globalization movements to focus on. Like Chomsky for college students or Jon Oliver for middle-aged television-watchers, AJ is a pressure-valve; he gives just enough reasonable critiques about society to keep disaffected people tuning in and trusting him, but then slips in these little spoilers to keep the conversation going his way - buy iodine, vote Republican, trust Trump and Reagan. More recently, AJ will openly encourage violent revolution, then back-pedal before the lawyers get him (and this, despite the fact that "encouraging violent revolution" is a narrative he's repeatedly accused his mainstream counterparts of pushing). Etc etc. I don't know if this is because AJ is being paid by a bigger gatekeeper (the Kochs, maybe?) to act as an alt-right psyop agent, or if AJ's just a shrewd businessman who wants his product to appeal to as large a demographic as possible (currently, the "talk radio" demographic). I strongly suspect it's the latter, but the end results are the same.

Like OZ says, most (perhaps all?) of what AJ says in this video is fairly reasonable. There *is* a difference between reality and corporate-controlled artificial systems, genuine human experiences *are* important, and Pokemon *does* make you stupid. But my point is: he's not always this reasonable, and the times he's not are important to be cognizant of, as well.

Where does that happen? I only watched about 3 minutes.
