This and that socialist thing had one very striking similarity. Neither shows signs of knowing how to design a plan of action that constructs something which lasts. When this video started, I was thinking "they built a backyard fort? Out of lumber? Holy shit! They built something! They built something!"

Okay, so in the midst of this "IN MY DAY, KIDS HAD MORE RESPECT" old people party, Memedumpster kind of fall ass-backwards into an interesting point, in that hippies were generally well-off kids of upper middle class parents. In other words, they were already privileged enough that they could play at being revolutionaries by wearing bad clothes and smoking lots of pot, then after graduation they could give it all up without consequence because they already had a job lined up at daddy's company, putting them well on their way to being the Trump voters they are now.

Comparing millenial activists to hippies misses the point; they actually take far more after the Civil Rights movement, AKA the one 60's social movement that actually fucking accomplished things. There's more of a focus on equality for minority groups, and a big push toward rethinking economic systems, both major traits of the civil rights movement.

The difference boils down to how activism is a central part of millenial culture, as opposed to just the diversion it was in hippie culture. This means they're more likely to actually make some positive change, especially as they grow older and acquire more economic power.

But no, they probably can't make rocks sharper. They also probably can't bring down a mammoth with their pointy spears. How they survive during Cold Times, when Great Orb in Sky give less heat? This dark time for tribe, ook ook.

I seem to recall a big chunk of Sanders' support base getting all butthurt over BLM, because they felt that black issues of survival would crowd out the much more important white issues of economic improvement. That's the point at which I developed a nagging suspicion that many in the Sanders movement are not all that different from Teabaggers (the one group thinks the government is trying to take theirs, and the other thinks the government can help them get theirs).

The local OWS chapter didn't impress me much either: no focus, just dissatisfaction and little clear sense whom to be mad at and what to do about it.

You don't have to choose. Film it like satire so no one can laugh at you, but put up a kickstarter in case people take it seriously.

These meanings change, but whatever they mean, it renders the need for structured communication irrelevant.

A friend of mine back in the day referred to this as "electric star babble". But yeah, the current babble is definitely influenced by those motivational posters and unique snowflake garbage promulgated by the management set. I think that's what makes it so awful and meaningless. BTW, I've heard a lot of adults in the urban parts of this state prattle on just like this, so it's not just the millennials.

There's an area where cynicism and naivete meet, where there is a disbelief in the existence of plans to reach a goal. The difference is that one group has decided no plans can work, the other has decided no plans are needed. Sometimes a person can be both at once; without trying to turn this political, I see it a lot in Sanders' supporters ("every politician except Sanders is corrupt, but all we have to do is support Sanders and everything will work out fine").

I much prefer planning, trying to avoid pitfalls where possible and prepare for them where necessary, and using my head for something other than a place to hang my Pringles guy mustache. And if I decide to build a fort, I'll try to do it right, like this guy:
