Community college speech classes must have a high instructor turnover rate.

M-DEEM - 2016-01-09 I did about 5 minutes. Looking beyond the truly deplorable content oozing from its humanish vessel we have just a really bad fucking speech.

ladies, seriously, I'm big into feminism so, I guess that naturally leads to all the sex with you, right?
|
Xenocide - 2016-01-10 Fun game: go to any Brony website and say you love feminism. Watch them try to destroy you.
|
EvilHomer - 2016-01-10 Is that true, Xenocide? Do you have any juicy, drama-filled links to share?
|
|
Xenocide - 2016-01-11 If you are the type of feminist that nerds hate, that just means you are doing things right.
The state of bronies amazes me, because this is a show about a group of female characters who are powerful because they support each other, created by perhaps the most prominent outspoken feminist in the animation industry, and a huge chunk of its most passionate followers are the exact kind of people who despise the values the show is built on.
I wonder if that's depressing for the people who make the show, or if they just close their eyes and think of the royalty checks.

The Mothership - 2016-01-09
All you women in this room, you might think you understand girly things and feminine characters, but you're wrong, I understand them better than you.
Sleep with me?

You guys need to shut up and give this show a chance. All I've heard is complaining and prejudice over MLP in the last half decade.

|
crasspm - 2016-01-09 I wonder what the next half decade might have in store?!

Sanest Man Alive - 2016-01-09 I gave it a chance, hell, I marathoned through a whole season just to be sure. It just didn't grab me. Don't get me wrong; it's cute and colorful, and doesn't look boring (maybe a bit predictable, but that's not necessarily the same). and if I had kids I'd be fine with them watching, but whatever's causing swathes of young adults across the internet to latch onto this show like limpets has somehow passed me by.
Can't really say I'm better than them, though. I started watching Steven Universe for the PG body horror and supernatural shenanigans early on, then found myself caring about the characters and their motivations. I've even caught myself analyzing the lore it sometimes hints at, just like my old Eva fandom days. If someone's curious about SU, I might point them to a few good early episodes to start on (it's kinda sequential, but not so much at first), but if they already don't like it, I can live with that.
Not gonna compare the two shows any further, because that's probably a comment shitstorm waiting to fall. Just saying: I'm a dorky adult with some childish pastimes, but not others. That's all.
|
EvilHomer - 2016-01-10 Good response, Sanest! Also good call on not getting sucked into a comparison; SU and MLP always cause a shitstorm, a shitstorm that Cena loses.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-10 Crass, who knows. After all the first half decade brought us the the elements of harmony, princess twilight, the crystal empire, and so much more. I figure if the show lasts another 5 years that Applejack will also become a princess, and Fluttershy will marry Treehugger. By that time gay marriage will be acceptable enough that they'll no longer have to self censor.
The MLP film will hold up on it's own. If anything It'll get many sequels.
I'd give this kid a B. He'd get an A+ if he'd discussed Steven Universe instead.

That guy - 2016-01-10 You and EH are why I 1-star everything mlp.
I can't even give laughing at it a chance.
|
Cena_mark - 2016-01-10 You know there's life outside of POETV. You can enjoy it away from this sight. Homer and I haunting your nightmares. It's mainly his fault. He's always grasping at straws.
|
EvilHomer - 2016-01-10 Fluttershy will not marry Treehugger, but I think Applejack has a good chance of becoming a Princess; she is, after all, a hipster-loving, closeted girly-girl (cough cough Applejewel).
I don't know how I'd grade this young man. I suppose that first I'd have to know the actual terms of his assignment!

|
Cena_mark - 2016-01-10 She just wanted to prove that she could ape high culture better than Rarity could ape farm culture, and it did. It got that damned hipster off of her.
|
EvilHomer - 2016-01-10 She wanted to be sexist and classist, you mean. But the skill with which she carried out her deception betrayed her innermost desires; like ChrisChan, Applejewel's clearly a glamour girl at heart.

pastorofmuppets - 2016-01-10
made it about 2 minutes.
it's almost worse that folks like him have corners of the internet that they can retreat to, because when they have to interact with people outside of messageboards they just try to use the same humor and don't understand why it doesn't work (e.g. 8:02).
otoh it's good that he can spend part of his day not being silently judged for the scoliosis and whatnot.

|
Cena_mark - 2016-01-10 It's hard enough learning public speaking, dealing with hecklers is a whole other challenge.
|
|
Cena_mark - 2016-01-10 That started in my transitioning period. So I guess I was a libertarian and a brony for a very short period.

|
Juice Eggs McKenna - 2016-01-10 If this site put timestamps on comments we could pretty much use it to document Cena's entire journey.

Cena_mark - 2016-01-10
At 11:00 he starts talking about haters. You haters should watch that part.
"The haters are like little kids who try hard to be the normal person and wants everyone to be like them."
|
M-DEEM - 2016-01-10 While that is a well reasoned and nearly bulletproof argument, I tend to hate because I see bronies as men who are simply dipping their toes in pedophilia. Furthermore I feel that men who speak as if they cannot separate the internet from real life should spend some time in jail or working in an MLP toy factory.
