If this came out today, I can guarantee there'd be thousands, if not millions, of outraged assholes bitching about 'indoctrinating our kids with radical feminist dogma'.

...of course, it's possible that there were about that many that did the same thing when it DID come out. But there's something kind of wrong when I can guarantee at least four or five of my own personal internet acquaintances (research subjects?) would flip their lid at this.

Great song, great animation, anyway. Five.

If this came out today, there would be millions of people saying that the suffragette movement was led by a bunch of rich, extremely racist white women and that feminism itself was a movement dominated by rich white women.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-12-31

This one had the most soul of all the "School House Rock!" shorts which is hardly surprising as it was sung by Essra Mohawk. Her other contribution, "Interjections!" rocks just as hard.

Bort - 2016-01-01

I'm partial to "Verb - That's What's Happening". I very much like the kid dreaming of being all the things his heroes are. This video is happy as shit and I approve.

At the age of seven or so, I didn't like this so much, because my older sisters were all "woo yeah! women!" when they watched this and I was feeling like there was a tacit knock against men in there.

Then I turned eight and stopped having a bug up my butt.

So yeah, I have to admit with some shame that there was a time in my life I thought a little bit like misogynist assholes. And like a good many of them, I didn't have complete mastery over my bladder either.

Bort - 2015-12-31

That said, I still think "suffrage" and "what age" make for an indefensibly shitty rhyme, and "restrictive rule" is a feeble turn of phrase. Go back and rework the lyrics until they're good; if you need help, ask a man.

Xenocide - 2015-12-31

On the other hand, you never, ever need to justify rhyming a word with "mashed potatoes."

infinite zest - 2016-01-01

Also "no matter what age?" Was registration different in the 70s and kids could vote?

Bort - 2016-01-01

The 26th Amendment set the legal voting age to 18 in 1971. But I don't think that was looming large in the lyricists' minds, they needed a rhyme for "suffrage" and didn't think of "coverage", "beverage", "muff ridge", or "mashed potatoes".

Xenocide - 2015-12-31

DID 1970'S TUMBLR WRITE THIS SJW PROPAGANDA

WHERE'S THE SONG ABOUT THE OPPRESSION WE ALL SUFFERED WHEN THEY REMOVED THAT BUTT SHOT FROM STREET FIGHTER 5.

infinite zest - 2015-12-31

You mean you can't pause the game when Chun Li does a flip and see her butt anymore? I don't want to live in that kind of world!

Bobonne - 2016-01-01

My teenage years have been RAPED. RAPED JUST LIKE JUNI AND JULI NO DOUBT WERE BY M. BISON.

THE GAMER COMMUNITY IS BEING GENOCIDED BY THE SJWS JUST LIKE T. HAWK'S TRIBE WAS, AGAIN, BY M. BISON.

American Standard - 2016-01-01

Comparable to "elbow room" in playin' fast-n-loose wit the facts, but it only had 3 minutes.

5 for Essra Mohawk.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2016-01-01

The fact that so many of you are actually comparing people who fought for women's suffrage and equality to the mongoloids who bitch about how video game characters are dressed and how we should start banning words like "bossy" scares the shit out of me.

Nominal - 2016-01-01

Can no one really tell the difference in tone & language between this and modern stuff like #YesAllMen or "teach men not to rape"?

People are latching onto the movement as an excuse to be contemptuously antagonistic to others. The very first comment here is telling; nobody cares about any message of positivity or achievements, it's all about hating Emmanuel DudeBro Gamerstein. This happens every civil rights video posted here.

American Standard - 2016-01-01

"The people who fought for women's suffrage" had "how can you let filthy stupid colored men vote but not your beautiful clever wife" as a consistent bullet point in their essays and stump speeches and did everything they could to distance themselves from people like Ida B. Wells and other black suffragists.

Sooo maybe don't throw 'em up on any pedestals.

Shoebox Joe - 2016-01-01

Here's a bullet point presentation on how none of the posters in this thread should be taken seriously.

* The points of how people in feminist and civil rights subjects can be used in a negative manner is nothing to ignore, it is essential to realize the redundant nature of rallying for freedom and liberties while still holding pernicious views and emotions.
* The concept of leverage is nothing new and is a two way street. It is essentially an extremely universal and versatile concept and is difficult to put into place not due to definition of terms, but due to a cascade effect.
* Bobonne never mentioned anything about Gamers and or gamergate. The internet is plenty full of shitty people who don't play video games. Neither did Binro or Bort. The closest that could be said is Xenocide in their reference to the internet
* When a word with a broad statement is used in reference to a specific context, it can easily be self-incriminating

Binro the Heretic - 2016-01-01

@American Standard,

There may have been some sore feelings, there. After all, it had gone kind of like this:

BLACK SUFFRAGISTS: "Everyone has the God-given right to vote!"

SUFFRAGETTES: "We agree! You can count on us to support your efforts."

BLACK SUFFRAGISTS: "Thank you, sisters. With the help from all the material and morale support you've given us, we have a shot at making this work."

SUFFRAGETTES: "Hallelujah! Soon Blacks and women will have the right to vote!"

BLACK SUFFRAGISTS: "Wait, what?"

SUFFRAGETTES: "Uh...you said everyone had the right to vote?"

BLACK SUFFRAGISTS: "Well, yeah. 'Everyone' as in 'people'...you know...men."

SUFFRAGETTES: "But we gave you all this help..."

BLACK SUFFRAGISTS: "Yeah, and we appreciate that, but now we're being noticed and want to be taken seriously...so...see ya!"
