Does anybody really want a Half Life 3? I'd argue that the franchise was the Super Mario to the FPS world, but where do you go after 2? The story was never that interesting to me and a lot of other games use physics-based stuff now anyway.

Pillager - 2015-12-21

I crave what the Oculus Rift will do for gaming. I can't imagine HL3 passing up an innovation like that. It'll be a tech demo, not a great landmark of storytelling.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2015-12-21

Half life 2 was pretty seminal, showing people what could be done woth physics.
I'td be cool if for half life 3 they showed people what can be done with AI. An aspect of games that for the most part hasnt budged in decades, despite being the most interesting and possibility-filled one.

ps I had a loan of an oculus DK2 for a month or two.
It was cool at 1st. Buts it is basically a gimmick imo. It totally gave me motion sickness too (Though I cant read in the car)

CrimsonHyperSloth - 2015-12-21

I have a DK2 unit, it's usefulness really depends on the game but it has a lot of potential.

Elite Dangerous is the perfect example, I absolutely cannot play it on a monitor now.

I feel it's like a gamepad/joystick, perfect for some applications nonsense for the rest. I think FPS games will see no benefit from the current tech. I think ultimately it will spawn different genres that won't work for anything else.

I can't wrap my head around Occulus Rift.

There was a massive splurge of funding for VR in the early nineties; the HMDs they made never got around the limited immersion times (nausea, just not feeling good etc.).

Companies like Oculus have kept making whisper claims to the effect of "oh yeah we fixed that" (I've tried it, they haven't) and have been strategically dialing back their claims (HOW AWESOME WOULD IT BE TO BE ABLE TO LOOK AROUND A PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE WHILE SITTING DOWN...HOW AWESOME??!??).

I knew a kid back in elementary school who would loiter around the Toys Are Us Virtual Boy after school and pickpocket the people trying it out. Maybe that's got something to do with my fear of OR as well.

So I guess this is the thing fans do, now? "I paid money for something you made in the past, therefore you OWE it to me to make a new thing."

I know so many people who won't stop bitching because George R.R. Martin is slow in putting out the next book in the "Game of Thrones" series. Some of them actually demand he stop doing fun things to enjoy his wealth and get busy writing "their" book. Even creepier are the ghouls who insist he needs to get cracking so he can finish it "before he dies."

One guy I know refuses to read anything Neil Gaiman puts out because of that whole, "George R.R. Martin is not your bitch." thing. While most won't go so far as to boycott Gaiman, they do agree that Martin IS, in fact, their bitch because their consumption of his books led to his success.

I wouldn't blame Martin if he reenacted that scene from "Misery" and burned the manuscript in front of them while laughing maniacally.

I guess it's kind of cool that Steam let it be released, but yeah it's like talking shit about Lucas, who did make some pretty shitty Star Wars movies. I can't remember the quote, but he said when he makes a game he thinks about what POE would say and then goes and changes it. That's pretty cool.

Killer Joe - 2015-12-21

Half life 2 is one of the only games that gives me motion sickness. Just so you know.

infinite zest - 2015-12-21

It mostly gave me ennui. I was about 10 years late to the table and got the Orange Box for TF2, but turned out trying HL2 and Portal. The puzzles in Portal are fun because that's pretty much the idea, but not so much in HL2.

Bobonne - 2015-12-22

It's the only game that ever gave me motion sickness, too.

The airboat level?

infinite zest - 2015-12-22

Ugh. That's pretty much where I gave up. I had the exact same feeling I had with Battletoads when it started: "hey this is fun! Wait it's still going? Make it stop!"

That guy - 2015-12-22

mariokart, and only mariokart, gave me immediate motion sickness– almost to puke-level

infinite zest - 2015-12-22

Yeah I gotta add Roadblasters to my list as well as being a passenger in an automobile in general, but that's usually because I'm drinking when not driving.
