The trouble is you know that when they say "reality" they mean the materialist/individualist ideological version of the exact kind of thinking they're making fun of.

I still enjoyed it though.

Bobonne - 2015-10-26

The fact that the various right-wing dickheads on the internet all hang out in incredibly well-secured hugboxes echo-chambering at each other non-stop, then accuse others of doing exactly the same thing, never ceases to amuse me.

Cena_mark - 2015-10-26

I'm what happens when right-wing dickheads leave the echo-chamber.

Bort - 2015-10-26

Well, you're what happens when a person with a decent mind and heart leaves the right wing echo chamber. Under other circumstances, the result could involve guns, bodies, and clown makeup.

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-10-26

I distinctly remember clown makeup, Bort. Not sure about the guns, but if not then that's a deficiency he'll have to live with. Whatever happened to that masterpiece theatre thingy golden age cena sprung on us before he shipped out? It must be linked here someplace.

Cena_mark - 2015-10-27

It wasn't clown makeup it was wrestling facepaint, and it was Marksterpiece theater. I didn't own any guns back then. I only own one right now. I bought it in Alaska in case the bear mace failed.

Bobonne - 2015-10-27

I am in favour of extremely strict gun control laws.

That is a perfectly good reason to have a gun.

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-10-27

I did remember the name after posting, and much to my dismay, the link was down! Come on Cena, that was a great piece of content. Put that bad boy back up. Golden Age Cena may be dead, but there's no reason to kick over the head stone.

memedumpster - 2015-10-27

I remember Marksterpiece Theater! With Sting and a pirate flag. Did I just implant the memory of the pirate flag?

Oscar Wildcat - 2015-10-27

No, the pirate flag was definitely flying. Sting? That I completely forgot. Little did that callow youth realize that soon he would be swimming in the submarine cocaine.

Cena_mark - 2015-10-27

Most of the time I made it look like Sting, and I own pirate flags a plenty. Don't fear, I was digging through some external harddrives and found the footage. Maybe I'll put some up.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-10-26

A long-time friend got angry with me over Facebook.

They had posted one of those trite little right-wing memes that ended with "LIKE/SHARE IF YOU AGREE!"

I made it clear I didn't agree and pointed out the inaccuracy of the statement made in the meme.

The friend sent me an email expressing their displeasure. I had, according to them, "defaced" their Facebook page. They view their Facebook page as an extension of their private home and my dissent was equivalent to coming into their house and scribbling graffiti on their walls.

I apologized and promised not to do it again. They're not a bad person and there's nothing they wouldn't do for me if I needed help. I still disagree with a lot of things they say, but it's not worth alienating them over.

Cena_mark - 2015-10-26

I retort to some of those memes. If they get mad I tell them not to post political shit if they're not up for defending. People used to complain about politics being boiled down to soundbites, now it's boiled down to memes.

Anaxagoras - 2015-10-26

Wait.... as Bobonne pointed out above, your friend is doing *exactly* the thing he's criticizing others for: he's demanding that a particular social context be his safe space.

I wouldn't alienate him over the "HAR HAR SAFE SPACE" nonsense. But... umm... it might be worthwhile to point out his incredible hypocrisy. (Idiocy? Blindness? Hell, I don't know which word to use.)

Nikon - 2015-10-27

"Some people's idea of free speech is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone says anything back, that is an outrage."
- Sir Winston Churchill

Xenocide - 2015-10-26

Yes, if there's two people who I trust to tell me what it's like to survive in the real world, it's a pair of Hollywood millionaires who work 13 weeks a year.

Cena_mark - 2015-10-26

They're so lazy with the show nowadays. Since the animation process is all computers and very fast you'd figure they'd invest more time into writing.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-10-26

Matt Stone and Trey Parker have voluntarily submitted themselves to literally decades of public criticism, both artistically and politically. Yet instead of running off to cry in the corner about how horribly criticism Triggers them, they actually stand in the arena and state their beliefs.

It's one thing to not want to participate in the debate. But it's another thing altogether to be a colossal pussy about everything and then immediately insist you're a Big Tough Lion so long as no one ever disagrees with you on anything ever.

Anaxagoras - 2015-10-27

Sexy Duck Cop: Yup. Exactly.

Cena: Why do you say they've become lazy? They seem to still be innovating & experimenting. Last season, for example, they introduced continuity across the season, which made for some really creative & funny call-back jokes to previous episodes.

This season, they're doing the continuity thing again, plus the social criticism was dead on the first couple episodes. PC Principle is a perfect encapsulation with what's wrong with the current crop of SJWs. Hell, I support almost all the goals of the SJWs, but so many of them are so stupid, and some seem so addicted to outrage that they can't be bothered to think critically. And Trump as a Safety Dance loving Canadian was *awesome*.

Cena_mark - 2015-10-27

I'll admit this season is an improvement, but the ones proceeding it were just plain awful. They often take one or two things and then hammer on them throughout the whole episode. Last season, I didn't even see most of it. The PewDiePie Cartman thing was just lame.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-10-27

I don't know. Parker & Stone's favorite method of dealing with criticism involves dressing up puppets to look like extremely unflattering versions their critics and making those puppets say & do humiliating things.

Still doesn't seem like a mature way of handling things.

infinite zest - 2015-10-27

I turned out watching all the new ones on southparkstudios just now; I don't really follow South Park but it's kind of like catching up on Dunesbury or something. I didn't like the first few, and the Canada Trump-Wall episode's joke was actually done first by none other than Garrison Keilor. Or maybe he got it from somewhere else, who cares..

but I liked the gentrification and Whole Foods thing that's going on now. But if you want a true vision of gentrification, visit Portland, where Whole Foods is vilified (but is around) and another store that does the same thing is praised, and causing even more problems for local businesses than Whole Foods ever did, anywhere else that I've lived.

PC Principal is also just an awesome character name and design bro.

Gmork - 2015-10-27

For fucks' sake, Matt and Trey, this is the television equivalent of throwing a temper tantrum.. and at the wrong people.

memedumpster - 2015-10-27

Unless the behind the scenes thing I saw was a fabrication, this show is written and made the same week it's aired. The vast animation computer bank is a dude with a tablet, and they all sleep in the office and eat fast food all week. A power outage not long ago made them miss an airdate.

This is kind of the Fawlty Towers of cartoons.

Because of that, I can excuse this joke being kind of low hanging fruit and not very well done. It should have had UN hospital workers singing before being Obamaslaughtered.

Spaceman Africa - 2015-10-27

I just can't wait until Cartman calls someone a "social justice warrior" and then Reddit climaxes and dies

MacGyver Style Bomb - 2015-10-26

What should of ended earlier: Simpsons or South Park?

Cena_mark - 2015-10-26

South Park's decline in quality is less striking than the Simpsons. I just feel I've outgrown South Park.

spikestoyiu - 2015-10-27

South Park was never good.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-10-28

Should have. Should have. No one who struggles to form a simple fucking sentence should be lecturing anyone else on good writing.

I ARE IS OF THE SMARTS SOUTH PART IS BENEATH THE SKILLS OF WHICH POSSES ME I want to throw a rock at your goddamned head

That guy - 2015-10-28

You can also write "should've".

Bus_Aint_Comin - 2015-12-04

"shoulda"

Bort - 2015-10-26

So am I correctly inferring they feel that only pussies believe there is such a thing as cyberbullying, and only pathetic loser pussies feel they've been victims of it?

Anaxagoras - 2015-10-26

Not really, although that's *exactly* how conservative jackasses will interpret it.

Although this episode kinda missed the mark, the core of their criticism is fairly valid: When you choose to share aspects of yourself with casual acquaintances, you shouldn't react in horror & disgust whenever anybody says critical or mean things. That's life.

The problem is that they seemed to think that Fat Shaming is the exact same as any other kind of criticism. (e.g. Bad Fashion Shaming, or Shitty Taste In Music Shaming) They kinda missed the boat on that one.

animegurl1000 - 2015-10-26

South Park has always taken the "If you have any feelings about anything whatsoever, you're a pussy" stance for as long as I can remember.

Cena_mark - 2015-10-26

That's a pretty annoying stance. It allows them to act high and mighty over everyone, while they themselves punt on every issue.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-10-26

I cannot stress enough what colossal pussies victims of cyberbullying are.

Bort - 2015-10-26

"When you choose to share aspects of yourself with casual acquaintances, you shouldn't react in horror & disgust whenever anybody says critical or mean things. That's life."

Sure you should react in horror and disgust, or at least correctly identify the other person as the problem. Some people are going to be broken and shitty, but that's their choice, and let's not pretend they're just doing what comes naturally to a person in proper functioning condition.

But then you have some decisions to make, how to safeguard yourself.

Anaxagoras - 2015-10-27

If we're talking about Fat Shaming, yeah the other person is the problem. If we're talking about someone making fun of your singing because you can't sing worth a damn, they're not the problem.

It all depends on what's being mocked, and why, and how.

Bort - 2015-10-27

Even in the case of bad singing, if the other person is being an asshole, they are making a choice too.

Like the rest of us, I enjoy having a good laugh at someone making a fool of himself online. But like ((probably) most of) the rest of us, I would not look for a way to insult the person directly, because that's just being an asshole.

spikestoyiu - 2015-10-27

"Fat shaming" someone simply because they're fat and they exist is pretty terrible and unnecessary. That guy who recently had a picture of him taken at a show or a club or wherever and mocked online is an example of this.

Morbidly obese people who strip down to a fucking thong or whatever and purposely post provocative photos, but demand only positive comments, are a different story.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-10-27

Obesity is the result of a series of poor lifestyle choices and is extremely hazardous to your health. "Shaming" it can do nothing but good. It's the same reason "shaming" smokers and druggies is good.

Spaceman Africa - 2015-10-27

You are a fucking idiot.

prang - 2015-10-27

If only there was a space where we could be safe from people who demand safe spaces!

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-10-28

I wish there was a place where I could successfully shit my pants in terror at basic human interaction without anything resembling gentle criticism

This is not the most first world problem in since 80 trillion years

if I asked a syrian refugee "would you rather be here or have a safe space", they would say "oh mother of god, safe space, definitely", but then I said "by safe space I mean a place on the internet where no one ever disagrees with you" they would say "does this place involve food and shelter"

THIS IS NOT A FIRST WORLD PROBLEM

STOP SAYING I AM SPOILED COWARD

YOU'RE TRIGGERING ME ALL OVER

I AM ACTUALLY A BIG STRONG LION

Gmork - 2015-11-01

As if I needed any more evidence that dairyqueenlatifah is an amoral piece of human garbage.

garcet71283 - 2015-10-26

With Bort on this.

I have lived a full life without social media.

Tried Facebook, put a few wedding pictures on it, then left it forever.

If you don't want to be bullied, don't have an internet presence or stick to alias'. And for fucks sake, don't put pictures of yourself online.

Bort - 2015-10-26

I'm not sure I said exactly that. While I don't do social media any longer -- I made my mistakes 20 years ago, back when Trumpet Winsock roamed the land like a tyrannosaurus -- it's pretty hard to tell young'uns these days to eschew the media by which all their friends communicate. And sadly, it's the young who are the least well equipped to handle it: bullies have no sense of when they're going too far, kids have no skill at emotionally detaching from it. (Plenty of adults are terrible at it too.)

So, I don't know that there's a good solution that allows a kid to stay in contact with friends without being bullied. But I'm sure as hell not about to victim-blame the problem away, Parker and Stone style.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-10-28

oh christ you're triggering me

you're triggering me

oh goddamn baby you trigger so good

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-10-26

"How dare you? I'm not the one with the problem! YOU'RE the one with the problem!"

prang - 2015-10-27

Is it not good to have a safe space?

Nikon - 2015-10-27

If it's just your bedroom where you can be yourself, relax, lay videogames and read, that's probably okay.

Demanding that your school, your workplace, twitter, or the entire world become safe spaces is probably not okay.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/22/opinion/sunday/judith-shulev itz-hiding-from-scary-ideas.html?_r=0

Bobonne - 2015-10-27

A note should probably be made that Wendy McElroy and some of the other people opposed to the whole 'safe space' thing are total dicks, but there are some points in that article that have merit, too.

It's possible for there to be two different viewpoints that are correct at the same time in different ways, which is a point a lot of polarized ideologues tend to miss. It can be important for ideas to be challenged if there's to be any notion of academic integrity and it can also be a good idea to think over some of the terminology/media used in a lecture to pluck out completely unnessecary and extraneous rapey/racist bits that might really fuck up someone's day, too. Sometimes, words DO hurt, even if that wasn't the intent of the person saying them.

People are squishy and breakable, and taking a little care in how we treat each other isn't a bad thing, in my mind. But, at the same time, there are bigger issues that need tackling that you can't ignore due to their being hard to talk about, too. It's almost as if it's a complex issue that can't be distilled down into cartoon mockery without making you look like a raging prick or something.

Tough American Bouncer - 2015-10-27

Triggered.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-10-27

"Triggered" is one of my trigger words. Stop violating my right to be comfortable and check your privilege, shitlord.

That guy - 2015-10-27

oh of course this video lead to dumbfuckery on poetv

Good job pussies!

poorwill - 2015-10-27

I am a volunteer at a collective that puts on music gigs at houses/community centres/warehouses etc. We're dedicated to making these places 'safer spaces' and we have a group of volunteers who people - especially women - can go to if they're being sexually harrassed or verbally abused, which happens with unfortunate regularity to women at gigs and parties. The initiative has been very successful and we hope to do better.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-10-31

I'm giving all my stars to you and not this video

Bus_Aint_Comin - 2015-12-04

:D

Rafiki - 2015-10-27

Is the fat bearded guy supposed to be normsbarstool?

jimmyboblahey - 2015-10-27

Five for all the butthurt faggots triggered by this.

jimmyboblahey - 2015-10-27

Specifically the faggots in these comments whining about dem evil republicans coming for our feels.

Cena_mark - 2015-10-27

Hey. Online bullying has serious consequences. Sometimes people are even driven to suicide by online bullying. I don't know if you're bully, but if you are check out this site.
https://community.wwe.com/diversity/programs/be-star

jimmyboblahey - 2015-10-27

Lol I get it bruh. Sick joke.

Gmork - 2015-11-01

It's vindicating seeing how quickly butthurt conservatives clamor over supporting this badly written episode.

It takes all of five seconds for anyone with half a brain to realize the character played by "reality" doesn't metaphorically represent reality at all.

He represents trolls. You don't have to put effort into being a troll to be one - you just have to be a stupid asshole like Jimmybob here.

This episode is built for the emotional cowards like Jimmybob who can't own up to the fact that reality isn't black and white, but want to feel like their inner angst has a legitimate place to be vomited out.

Yes, everyone who has ever gotten their feelings hurt is a "stupid pussy", jimmy. Brilliant philosophy on life. Go fuck yourself and die.

Spaceman Africa - 2015-10-27

"[The episode] parodies the idea of safe spaces while also continuing the season-long lampoon on political correctness." woah good on South Park for tackling such a grave issue, finally South Park knocks political correctness down a peg.

Cena_mark - 2015-10-27

I didn't want to look at the youtube comments, but I'm they weren't nearly as racist as I thought they'd be. Way to go youtube community.

SolRo - 2021-10-26

Yeah, millionaires living in a mansion with private security ranting at you about your safe spaces.
