In all fairness, the monk should have had at least one dude standing outside the door to make sure nobody released the ultimate evil.

Or, you know, he could have had a regular door with a regular lock keeping people out of the hallway leading to the room imprisoning the devil with that easily-removed shepherd's staff.

Or he could have just used a regular lock to keep the staff in place.

The old monk is the one who dropped the ball, here.

Conceptually, I think, they dropped the ball here: evil got unleashed upon the world through mercy, not through cruelty. I guess that makes for irony, but I would figure that only evil can unleash evil, metaphysically speaking.

A smarter monk would have rushed into the open cell and closed the door. Now a prison is a prison, no matter how big, so has the monk's or the devil's situation changed? He's again on one side of a door with his opponent on the other. Eventually, because the only thing outside the cell door that the devil wants is the monk, you can bet he'll be back in the sweet by and by.

And are shepherd's hooks that rare? Why not seal every exterior door & window in the monastery with one? Then, even if the devil got out of the cell, he wouldn't get out into the world.

The monk is not a bright man. He had decades to work on that.

If any of you have seen Werewolf of London, the 1935 film that would be overshadowed by The Wolf Man, Henry Hull's werewolf transformation is done the same way.

I imagine there were times when Lon Chaney Jr. would have preferred that.

Two Jar Slave - 2015-10-24

Throw it in the hopper for comparison.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-10-24

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention the Werewolf of London.

Two Jar Slave - 2015-10-24

What troubles me here is that 'dramatic lighting' is not a linked tag. Get on it, people!

That guy - 2015-10-24

That whole clip is a mix of good work and ham-fisted.

Robin Kestrel - 2015-10-24

This episode also makes use of George Clemen's red-green filter trick, which another impressive practical effect for the time.

That guy - 2015-10-25

thanks for noting this
