Binro the Heretic - 2015-10-24
In all fairness, the monk should have had at least one dude standing outside the door to make sure nobody released the ultimate evil.
Or, you know, he could have had a regular door with a regular lock keeping people out of the hallway leading to the room imprisoning the devil with that easily-removed shepherd's staff.
Or he could have just used a regular lock to keep the staff in place.
The old monk is the one who dropped the ball, here.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-10-24 And are shepherd's hooks that rare? Why not seal every exterior door & window in the monastery with one? Then, even if the devil got out of the cell, he wouldn't get out into the world.
The monk is not a bright man. He had decades to work on that.

If any of you have seen Werewolf of London, the 1935 film that would be overshadowed by The Wolf Man, Henry Hull's werewolf transformation is done the same way.
I imagine there were times when Lon Chaney Jr. would have preferred that.

This episode also makes use of George Clemen's red-green filter trick, which another impressive practical effect for the time.
