The Mothership - 2015-10-17

Good payoff.

Crab Mentality - 2015-10-17

I'm surprised this wasn't already on here. Classic Mr. Show sketch, also featuring early Paul F. Tompkins.

Two Jar Slave - 2015-10-18

Yeah, I had to triple-check this one. I was surprised too.

jangbones - 2015-10-18

Busted!

I'm ruined!

infinite zest - 2015-10-18

Eh.. if something comes back every decade or so I don't care.. I only found it by typing in "detector", and not Mr. Show (some videos come up) or Mr Show without the period (no videos come up).. etc. etc.

Scattersane - 2015-10-17

This is one of my favorite comedy sketches of all time.

infinite zest - 2015-10-18

It's funny, the first time I saw this episode I remember not liking this sketch, because The Simpsons did it too (not the same bit but the one where Moe is being asked if he shot Mr. Burns and everything checks out until he gets to his own plans for the evening) but it's probably the sketch I quote the most now.

StanleyPain - 2015-10-17

The little SNL dig at the end always gets me.

Two Jar Slave - 2015-10-18

What's the dig at SNL?

baleen - 2015-10-18

Forced gag end plus live band?

StanleyPain - 2015-10-18

Yeah, the quick punchline, mug to the camera, super-fast credits thing. Maybe not SNL specific, but that network TV comedy thing.

The ACTUAL dig at SNL is in the "don't stick your dick in these holes" episode where they end it on a song with the whole cast.

baleen - 2015-10-18

I hate SNL for so many reasons. I haven't watched an episode in maybe 15 years.

Scrimmjob - 2015-10-18

Over the years since Mr. Show has been gone my love for Bob has stayed strong. At the same time, I've kind of grown to think David is an annoying asshole. Nonetheless I'm looking forward to new mr.show, I'll be looking forward to seeing people you hardly ever see, like John Ennis, and Jay.

infinite zest - 2015-10-18

That's funny, it was kind of the opposite for me, at least 10 or so years ago. I loved Cross and would play his stand-up at the store I worked at all the time, which you can see for 2 seconds in the DVD Let America Laugh. But in that DVD you see a very down-and-out looking Bob, who just appears for 2 seconds to wish David good luck on his show, almost looking like David forgot to call in for a +1.

And then there were Bob's movies which weren't that good and his appearances on a couple other comedy shows; during that time it really looked Bob had admitted defeat, like he had his chance and blew it and now the torch is being passed. But then I caught someone watching Breaking Bad and I just sort of assumed it was Mr. Show at first. And we know the rest of the story there.

As for Mike and Jay, they're around, but like Tom Kinney primarily it's just their voices. I'm willing to bet that Kinney makes more money now than anybody else in the cast, which sadly he doesn't look to be a part of.. I just feel bad for Dino S. (sorry dude I don't wanna butcher your last name) since everything he's tried to create post-Mr. Show sounds great and is really ambitious but kinda goes tits up when you see the finished product.

Merzbau - 2015-10-18

Really? Moral Orel (at least, post season 1) is kind of classic, and Frankenhole is definitely lesser but it has its moments and it's gorgeously animated. And Dino just finished animating a stop-motion movie for Charlie Kaufman (Anomalisa) that's getting great early reviews.

StanleyPain - 2015-10-18

David Cross is a great comedian and writer, but his "I look down on pop culture while simultaneously benefiting from it" schtick is getting fucking annoying as hell.
His movie, Hits (which is pretty good) pretty much relied on social media to gain any kind of real steam or marketing campaign, yet in interviews he still pulled his usual talking shit about facebook, etc. as if only weak people use it or something.
I was pretty disappointed with the whole Alvin and the Chipmunks nonsense. I don't begrudge someone taking a job to make money because it's the only way to keep moving on to the good stuff, but his bullshit "Oh, it wasn't selling out because the movie is aimed at kids" nonsense was just gut churning.

StanleyPain - 2015-10-18

I should mention I met Bob Odenkirk at a book signing last year. He was signing his new book, but I brought the Mr. Show book and he was really visibly pleased that someone was there who knew Mr. Show and not just Breaking Bad. He called over his wife (who wrote the book) and she too was also very surprised. he signed the book "My shoes hurt!" even though I didn't ask him too and he was just pure awesome..so friendly and so wanting to make sure that everyone enjoyed being there and he had not a single ounce of that celebrity bullshit of "Yeah, yeah..here's your book, get lost, where's my latte" kinda shit. He tried really hard to make the signing work (it was mobbed) and get everyone's book signed even though the store was trying to shut it down as fast as possible. He seems like such a class act.

I also got to meet Michael Mckean and Michael Mando as this was in Albuquerque and they were still there for part of the filming of Better Call Saul.

infinite zest - 2015-10-18

I dunno.. the Davey and Goliath premise for Moral Orel got old for me pretty quickly in the same way Mr. Pickles' Lassie premise did, but the animation was fantastic and very true to its source material. But don't forget I'm also a cynical jerk so don't take my word for it if you haven't watched it and like Dino's style.

As for Cross, I dunno. I've never been in a position where someone's offered me probably millions of dollars for a pretty easy couple of days work. I remember thinking it was pretty cool when he called the film antisemetic and said it was garbage ostensibly after getting the check.. that's kind of cool.. it's like the hollywood equivalent of getting a job at the zoo but secretly being a member of the animal liberation front.

Two Jar Slave - 2015-10-18

Actors have to act. Who cares if they appear in bad parts? Welles shilled for frozen peas. The mark of a good actor is sometimes appearing in good parts, too.

Two Jar Slave - 2015-10-18

Or rather, recognizing a good part when the opportunity comes up and making the most of it.

Aelric - 2015-10-18

Considering that Tom Kinney's wife Jill is shown in the trailer, I assume Tom is also there. Plus, Tom Kinny shows up for almost everything that former Mr. Cast members work on. Don't think any bridges were burnt.

StanleyPain - 2015-10-18

I think people are misunderstanding. I do not begrudge Cross (or really anyone) taking work where it is offered when the money will greatly improve their lives and forward their better work. My issue was how he tried to dismiss it as "not the same thing" as selling out because the movie was supposedly aimed at kids.

The whole snooty mass culture thing also comes a bit hollow when Amber Tamblyn has been on a piece of shit like Two and Half Men for a couple years now.

StanleyPain - 2015-10-18

As for who's working on the show, I don't know who all is totally on it, but there is no bad blood between anyone on Mr. Show as far as I know. David Cross' issues with Mary Lynn Rajskub I would assume are long over since they appeared on the Mr Show commentary tracks together. As I understand it, they wanted to get as many alumni as they possibly could, but it took years to get the schedules right to accommodate everyone.

infinite zest - 2015-10-19

I remember Patton Oswalt putting it pretty well.. I can't remember the line verbatim but he's talking about getting high on Halloween and all these kids come trick or treating wearing his costume from Ratatoullie.. maybe I've got it wrong but it was something like that and I was thinking "Disney's gonna be pissed about this" like kids who liked the funny rat man would go pick up a Patton Oswalt CD.. but I don't think Disney ever cared about him kind of talking shit about that movie, or being in a kids movie in general.

But Cross went pretty overboard on Chipwrecked, calling it antisemetic and telling parents that you shouldn't let your kids watch this, and not just in semi-non-public forum like Twitter or a stand up club (pretty much interchangeable for comedians since everybody films the sets now). But then he backed down and apologized on facebook and such.. had to read more into it.

As far as selling out goes, I dunno. I play in a few bands and it's usually for the free beer and maybe 10 bucks. And the few times I've gone on tour I've spent more money than I made. We get really good reviews but then everyone seems to forget because there's so much out there. But if someone asked the band I played in to open for One Direction or something for a million dollars, I think I'd say no, but some of the other members would say yes because music's what they want to do for a living and not just a hobby like it is for me. But then I think of what Bill Hicks would have to say about all of this..

infinite zest - 2015-10-19

Hicks would've had a field day with the CGI movies by the way.. you'll always be #1.
