I'll just leave this little gem here...

Quote from that article:

Critics of Mrs. Davis, on both the right and the left, argue that public officials cannot pick and choose which laws to uphold.

But what law – what specific law – did Mrs. Davis violate? Where is the law that mandates Mrs. Davis issue a marriage license?

That’s a question Republican presidential candidate former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee raised to his supporters in a recent letter.

“That simple question is giving many in Congress a civics lesson that they never got in grade school,” Huckabee wrote.

Quote from the official website of the Kentucky legislature:

522.020 Official misconduct in the first degree.
(1) A public servant is guilty of official misconduct in the first degree when, with intent to obtain or confer a benefit or to injure another person or to deprive another person of a benefit, he knowingly:
(a) Commits an act relating to his office which constitutes an unauthorized exercise of his official functions; or
(b) Refrains from performing a duty imposed upon him by law or clearly inherent in the nature of his office; or
(c) Violates any statute or lawfully adopted rule or regulation relating to his office.
(2) Official misconduct in the first degree is a Class A misdemeanor.
Effective: January 1, 1975
History: Created 1974 Ky. Acts ch. 406, sec. 187, effective January 1, 1975.

Maybe it's understandable that Huckabee couldn't figure that out, though. It took a whole two minutes of searching the internet, and really, how much work can we reasonably expect from our presidential candidates?

The Bull Connor parallel drives me up the wall.

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-09-04

^ amen. That's some atrocious shit if I've ever seen it. Sadly, they're pandering right into their audience's greatest fears and prejudices by making the comparison.

Potrod - 2015-09-04

Not I have much sympathy for her, but I'm not sure why the law doesn't just stipulate that she simply be fired.

kamlem - 2015-09-04

Bryan himself already used that metaphor.

Potrod,
As I understand it, her position is an elected one, and nobody has the authority to fire her. She has to be impeached by the state legislature. Which I think is in recess until January.

SolRo - 2015-09-05

the legislature wont impeach her, they're majority religious wackos as well.

their proposed plan is to rewrite the rules to fit her religious whims (and she can keep blocking marriages until that - what I'm certain will be a very speedy - process finishes). At which point there's no guarantee she wont have another crisis of dogmatic conscience that forces her to stop all marriages yet again.

chumbucket - 2015-09-04

Million Martyr March, over the cliff.

Also I like how "American history turns" on Kim Davis being a douche canoe.

TeenerTot - 2015-09-04

Yeah. American history is going to turn over one hissy little bigot.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2015-09-04

Huh I want need if these asshats would be ok if she refused gun permits on religious grounds or she were Muslim denying Christians marriage licenses.

Scrimmjob - 2015-09-04

The Christians who are up in arms about this are too big a bunch of sell out pussies to do anything but cry about it.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2015-09-04

Andy Kindler tweeted that calling this a war against Christians is like saying there's a war against cars because you can't drive them on the sidewalk.

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-09-04

I would say "lol xtians" indeed, if only it wasn't these same people who are most likely to actually commit bloodshed based on these things. That scares me a lot. Innocent people may be killed because this woman wouldn't just do her fucking job.

oddeye - 2015-09-04

that wqs a good movie

Maggot Brain - 2015-09-04

"Christaphob" wound't that be a fear of Christ?

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-09-04

I seriously hate Mike Huckabee more than any other GOP contender.

RockBolt - 2015-09-05

I thought these were the same people that are terrified over the prospect of sharia law being inflicted on the US system, or is that just a dog whistle word to them and they don't know what it actually means?
