At this point it's forward progress the cop didn't shoot or tase the kid.

Thank god someone is going to stop the cops from handcuffing all the white children.


Never mind the black kids this has been happening to for decades.

I mean, this sucks and the cop should face a penalty, but there should have been outrage LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG THE FUCK before this.

Having been a social worker in the deep south, my black kids on my caseload routinely got cuffed for the tiniest infractions while the white kids chilled in the principal's office.

The cops simply don't know what to do here because it's not their job and it shouldn't be. They aren't aware that the way their parents treated them doesn't work for all children. Some people's brains don't work like others, and people aren't always able to comprehend rational consequences. This school and the cops are wrong for calling law enforcement at all.

I've worked with kids in special ed situations like this, and it breaks my heart how often ignorant people are given power over vulnerable kids. In fact I've seen tons of much worse situations than this. I've seen cops tie down a kid whose brain is in sensory overload and handcuff him to a bed, and threaten to take him away from his mother forever and put him in jail if he doesn't calm down. It's like setting someone on fire and telling them you'll put them out when they stop making a fuss.

Teachers should have training on how mental illness and disabilities work and how to redirect and calm special needs kids before teaching them. That's obvious. So why the hell aren't cops with guns giving equivalent training before they interact with the community? Why don't we give them the tools needed to do something other than threaten or arrest? Some do know and have that experience, but it's not standardized and there's little support for cops to do anything else.

Cops should have to carry malpractice insurance.

Hey we don't see what happened just before the video! The kid could have been picking his nose or breaking crayons!

I expect cops to be violent, uncaring scum but my major problem with this situation is all of the non-cop adults that allowed this to happen. What kind of human garbage allows that kid to be cuffed, let alone films this for 7+ minutes?

If your response to unruliness or disobedience is physical force and violence, you don't need to be a cop.

The vast majority of humanity is not going to be happy about being detained or questioned, especially not by someone trained to "take control" of the situation through psychological and/or physical intimidation.
