Much like Frank Zappa I don't get Monty Python. Yes I understand it's absurdist sketch comedy but this partucilar but this bit is about par with a You Can't Do That On Television sketch. MP is pretty much hit or miss for me but I'll rate this five stars so as to fit in with the others but I draw the line at anime submissions.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-08 Much like Zappa, you have to find the right stuff because some of it is kind of bad, at least on the surface. And also like Zappa, some f the stuff that seems worst at first is actually the best stuff once you've gotten a feel for the larger context it emerged from.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-08 Anyway, probably 50% of what made Monty Python good was Graham Chapman's expressions and body language, and you can't really see much of that through the video compression here.

betabox - 2015-07-08 I like most of Python, and always have. Very early on, I liked the simple absurdity of it all, but as I grew and learned I found out that there were many layers of sublety I never understood.
As for Zappa, I still don't get most of his stuff.

This is one of my favorite bits on Monty Python, especially that very Python-esque multi-layered thing of there being many jokes all going on at once: the joke about the cannibalism, the weird joke about Cleese's leg getting taken off so he transforms into a pirate, the joke about the lake being in an ordinary flat, the joke about the officers all being hippies with the names of Hollywood starlets.
These guys were so fucking genius in their prime I don't even think *they* realized it.
