This reminds me of when Pokemon exploded in popularity and every single damn Kids WB network-made bumper like this was some other show (everything from classic Merry Melodies to the Men in Black cartoon Animaniacs to Cardcaptors) combined with Pokemon.

I don't remember this though. Interesting that one company decided to aim King of the Hill directly at kids on a Saturday morning block intended specifically for children while another years later decided it belonged on a late night adults only block.

For me, the most memorable Pokemon tie-in was the series of commercials they did with Lou Bega.

A LITTLE BIT O PIKACHU, IN MY LIFE!!

Those were so disturbing to be since the original song is, ostensibly, about all the women Lou Bega has slept with I guess?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-07-03

Next on Behind the Pokemon, Pikachu cries while relating the horrors of his time spent in Lou Bega's crib.

Ash: We thought it was funny a grown man wanted to sleep with Pikachu in the same bed but...he promised me an Alakazam!

Pikachu: (waterfall tears)

Yes, he also did a "Disney Number Five" where instead of women's names or Pokemon names he used Disney characters' names.

He really milked his one hit for all he could.

Yeah nothing screams "4 kids" like a narrow urethera. Oh wait a sec..

I do kind of remember KitH being marketed towards kids though, since Beavis and Butthead was the show kids weren't supposed to be watching, and Judge's popularity exploded because of that. You might as well have said "from the Creator of Pulp Fiction comes.. Dora the Explorer." So it was marketed in weird ways.

The difference between a TVY7 and TVPG are very vague too (for example Gumball is way more messed up than Steven Universe, Adventure Time or KitH) and I assume Silver Surver was Y7. And as far as the "late night adult" thing goes, KitH intentionally follows those other CN shows for that reason, and also finishes out AS's morning, just so if kids and parents are watching they get a disclaimer. Besides more references to sex and such, it's a pretty harmless show. And also pretty stupid. How did it last for so long?

I probably should've looked up to the left before I wrote that. I thought all the superhero cartoons were Y7. Weird!

Even better was Lou Bega's original composition for Fox Kids', "My Misty," written for and about the 12 year old girl on Pokemon.

Proto-YouTube Poop?

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-03

When I saw the title I was expecting Youtube Poop.

yogarfield - 2015-07-03

yup

infinite zest - 2015-07-03

Just Tubepoop back then.

Old_Zircon - 2015-07-04

I never would have guessed that the TV I was mostly ignoring at the time would spawn an artistic movement I would mostly ignore 20 years later.

That was before I was old enough to realize that "take the worst thing and add 20 years" is how pretty much everything happens.

Hailey2006 - 2015-07-04

Space Ghost: Coast to Coast and Cartoon Planet are other examples or was that just recycling already existing animated characters and backgrounds and giving them different voices and scenarios and adding new CGI and Live-action stuff!

Xenocide - 2015-07-04

Lil' ol' Fox Kids, man, dang ol' Animaniacs, they got dang ol' mafia birds, gonna, little ol' take over the world Pinky, it's dang ol', baloney in their slacks, man.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2015-07-04

Hank Hill later merged with the sentience of propane's superiority, feeding off planets who used lesser methods to grill their assorted meats. Of COURSE Silver Surfer needed to keep an eye on him.
