Oh yeah, I've seen this Not available in your country -video before.

infinite zest - 2015-05-13

Let's trade countries. 5 for a bunch of dudes jerking off over Jim Henson's tombstone and the combined ejaculate forming into a metaphorical lightbulb thus was the conception of "The Muppets"

Xenocide - 2015-05-13

No no, no. You can't be a balcony heckler if you're going to resort to semen jokes right off the bat. Statler and Waldorf never worked blue.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-05-13

Well, watching this video certainly made me feel blue!

garcet71283 - 2015-05-13

Dooohohohoho!

Shoebox Joe - 2015-05-13

five stars for this comment thread

infinite zest - 2015-05-13

For me anyway, with the exception of Farscape, everything Henson-related post-Henson has been pretty terrible, even the stuff that I remember as being good when I was a kid like Dinosaurs.

Xenocide - 2015-05-13

I wish I could bronze the first five comments of this thread.

TheOtherCapnS - 2015-05-13

The 2011 film was really good with great music and solid if predictable story; if you're including that then I guess there's no common ground. That said, this could be good, but there's definitely a much higher chance it will be shit, like with pretty much everything that comes out these days.

Speaking of which, I'm so fucking pumped for Mad Max, and I'm gonna go see it tomorrow in the theaters (a big deal for me).

TheOtherCapnS - 2015-05-13

It was funny, too!

Xenocide - 2015-05-13

Muppets 2011 was fantastic, and Muppets Most Wanted, while not quite as good, was still a lot of fun, as kind of a spiritual successor to Great Muppet Caper. And while we're at it, I'll defend Muppet Christmas Carol as one of the best film adaptions of that story ever.

infinite zest - 2015-05-13

Oh yeah! I really want to see Mad Max too. Almost forgot it was coming out so soon. It's like the first movie I've really wanted to see right away in Theatres since Inglorious Basterds.

infinite zest - 2015-05-13

Don't check metacritic tho ;)

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-05-13

An "adult" Muppet show is a terrible idea.

TheOtherCapnS - 2015-05-13

The original Muppet Show was an "adult" Muppet Show. It was full of all kinds of subtle, subversive humor that adults could enjoy while it went straight over their children's heads and they enjoyed the silly talking puppets.

I'm not saying this series will be great or even good, but damning it based on a single television ad would be beyond stupid.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2015-05-13

Before that, the Muppets had the Land of Gorch segments on Saturday Night Live in its first season. Land of Gorch wasn't great, and the whole thing deteriorated into "why aren't you using us on the show more" segments, but then, SNL writers didn't want to write for the mucking Fuppets.

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-05-13

I put adult in quotes for that very reason. The original was still completely enjoyable to adults, but now they want to make it "adult" meaning it'll be EDGY and have a bear fucking a human and stuff.

EvilHomer - 2015-05-14

Well, look at it on the bright side, JBF. "Adult" Muppets means that soon we'll probably be seeing a lot more Miss Piggy porn.

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-05-14

Oh, great!

spikestoyiu - 2015-05-13

Still better than the last half of the US Office run.

Binro the Heretic - 2015-05-13

Oh, for crying out fucking loud.

Ugh - 2015-05-13

recast ms piggy as the guy from the piggy dance vid and i'll tune in, otherwise pass

The Mothership - 2015-05-13

Yea I don't know.

Hegemony Cricket - 2015-05-13

Greg the Bunny + 30 Rock + Office = Fozzy is now fucking human women.

Thanks, cynics, nice job with that family variety show you inherited there. I know kids don't give a fuck about the Muppets anymore, so why try, huh?

But why not go full Feebles? The numbers on the ep where Rowlf's caught ruthlessly plowing an unconscious Janice he plied with antique ludes found in the lining of Zoot's Sax case will be amazing.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2015-05-13

Kids are glued to online media they only care about pewdiefuck and kidsreact bullshit.

TheOtherCapnS - 2015-05-13

You don't know any actual kids.

As one of the leading Cool Uncles™, I can assure you that the world will continue to have the same ratio of shitty people to good people, and that everything will be just fine.

fluffy - 2015-05-13

I liked it.

Shoebox Joe - 2015-05-13

Imdb lists this as a TV movie, so there may be hope that it will end before it wrings itself dry

TeenerTot - 2015-05-13

I think the phrase is "unpurchased pilot."

infinite zest - 2015-05-13

Well, it says "Tuesdays this fall.."

cognitivedissonance - 2015-05-13

I'm not against this.

Nikon - 2015-05-13

I don't know how to feel about this.

EvilHomer - 2015-05-13

I am very optimistic! But worse comes to worst, you've always got Statler and Waldorf.

That guy - 2015-05-13

Did you watch this? They already fucked that up.

SolRo - 2015-05-13

Some people just don't realize that a show censored for general audiences that manages to slip in adult humor is much more enjoyable and clever than an uncensored show full of unclever adult humor.

Aelric - 2015-05-13

I'm for more Muppets. I wish it was just a variety show in an old theater with back stage scenes like before and I think trying to make the Muppets 'edgy' with jokes about shitting in the woods and animal doing tasteful nudity as potentially bad, but the people that have handled the Muppets the past decade or two have mostly done good by Jim and I had a feeling it'll be ok.

That, and let's not forget that The Old Muppet Show that MADE the Muppets way more than sesame street or the movies started with a pilot called "sex and Violence"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELHkePIEJnk

Color me VERY cautiously optimistic. I understand the Muppets are a sacred cow, hell, Jim Henson dying was how I learned about death as a kid, but that doesn't mean that what we remember would be ruined if this is bad.

Shoebox Joe - 2015-05-13

~"That, and let's not forget that The Old Muppet Show that MADE the Muppets way more than sesame street or the movies started with a pilot called "sex and Violence""

That's a good reminder, but the problem isn't how they'll handle the adult humor, the problem is that they're entering a style and setup that's become a standard, meaning the only thing pushing it forward are the characters. One of the biggest things that made it work was playing with the celebrities and their variety shows. This feels like it's solely going to be nostalgia for nostalgia's sake, not because the setup was unique in of itself and stood out from other shows no many trends were going around.

sasazuka - 2015-05-14

This.

I don't mind the mockumentary angle if it's just a framing device for the behind-the-scenes antics as seen on the original Muppet Show, but I really hope they find a way to incorporate sketches and songs like on the Muppet Show and it isn't just a show about the personal lives of the puppets.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-05-13

This star is for the two critics at the end and their unironic foretelling of what's to come.

I mean, don't get me wrong, this show has the potential to be good, but going based off of this trailer alone, it looks pretty awful. The brilliance of most of what Jim Henson created was that it was a show for general audiences that had everything that would appeal to kids on the surface but was laden with innuendo and under-the-radar humor that only the adults would get. It was great. This looks like they just looked at something like The Office or Modern Family and said "HEY! WHAT IF WE MADE THIS SHOW BUT REPLACED ALL THE CHARACTERS WITH THE MUPPETS!?!?"

It also seems like a brazenly stupid idea when you consider this is riding on the coattails of the success of The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted, which were both heavily marketed toward kids. Why on earth then, would you make the show aimed at adults?

This has "cancelled after one season" written all over it.

TheOtherCapnS - 2015-05-13

I feel like we have the same position, but I'm being way more optimistic. It's a television ad. It probably has nothing to do with how the show will actually be. Of course they are trying to market it as similar to other shows that have recently seen success.

That's how ads work, and it has little to no bearing on how the actual show will be. I avoided seeing "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels," a great film, for nearly a decade just because of the quote on the cover that said it "out pulps 'Pulp Fiction'".

I'm not saying this show will be good, but there's at least a chance it will be good. I will definitely be giving it a shot.
