Black Guy - "Your moneys no good here!"
Lady Cop - "Thats great kid! You know, now theres almost no chance of us shooting you by accident!"
Man Cop - "Yeah, sorry about last time, it was dark!"

How far we have come. This show was pretty great for the time. Kinda preachy but I think most sitcoms were back then. This one was dark and preachy though, maybe that's why I remember this one and none of the other ones that were airing at the time.

I turned out watching a little bit of Backstrom tonight and I kind of liked how much of a racist alcoholic dick Dwight from The Office is. Dick meaning literally and metaphorically. Take away the laugh track and obvious Hemingway parallels and you've almost got the same show.

Oh. Looks like I saw what's probably the final episode. It's a shame when a show every critic likes is cancelled because the mainstream didn't get it, and shows like Big Bang Theory continue to exist, but it looks like I was the only person who thought it was pretty good.

I watched the pilot of "Backstrom" and caught bits of subsequent episodes. My gut feeling was, it was the "House" formula applied to murder investigations, and as the series would go on we'd learn more about Backstrom's past so that we might see him in a more sympathetic light. I didn't care to stick around long enough for all that.

... look, you assholes let "Selfie" (John Cho / Karen Gillan) get canceled. It's only fair.

Yeah.. I downloaded the first two episodes and was like "nevermind." The last episode of the season is pretty good though. It's weird, because I sort of feel the same way about Better Call Saul, but somehow it compels me, and the part of me that wants to see a good lawyer go bad isn't the same part of me that wants to see a bad (or at least insensitive detective) go good. Also, what's up with the location? I sort of started watching because they mentioned a street I live on in Portland, and actually pronounced it right, which is cool, but the damn thing's filmed in Vancouver BC. That's common for a lot of shows, but that's a backdrop for New Yorks or Chicagos, not Portland Oregon. Plus it's cheap as fuck to film in Portland. In fact, they're filming for Grimm right outside where I'm working right now. For everything that pisses me off about how Portlandia could be anycity USA, at least I recognize buildings and faces. Backstrom continually references things that are sort of inside jokes within the pacific northwest, and it's filmed in Canada. No offense, Canadians.

When we succeed and form Cascadia, then we can talk, British Columbia. Until then enjoy your.. oh fuck I wish I lived in Vancouver.

Wow, completely forgot about this show.

eatenmyeyes - 2015-05-05

The set was much nicer than the actual St. Louis bus station(I think I was last there in 1999).
