Jet Bin Fever - 2015-03-10

'round here we call that a "smokestack."

SolRo - 2015-03-10

get over yourself, it's just a big chimney.

The Mothership - 2015-03-10

Not shown: the TERRIFYING descent.

This is good, but still not as good as this, the sweaty-palm inducing benchmark:

Jet Bin Fever - 2015-03-10

I thought this one was even worse, not only because the height, but the smog and the dependance on probably underpaid and overworked Chinese builders/engineers.

simon666 - 2015-03-11

I missed both these videos! Though the Russians on the crane seems familiar; maybe I've seen the preload before. Well, my day is shot. I'm sick to my stomach.

Adham Nu'man - 2015-03-11

The difference is that this here video is an unsecured climber ascending on a crumbling piece of shit derelict building, while the one you linked to is a properly maintained tower being climbed by a professional wearing safety gear.

infinite zest - 2015-03-11

LET'S ALL JUST AGREE THAT WE'RE NOT GONNA GO OUT AND TRY THIS NOW!!!

Gmork - 2015-03-11

Nominal - 2015-03-11

I used to teach ropes courses at summer camp. Heights aren't a big deal to me unless there's a pretty decent chance at falling. I was thinking "yeah I could do this" up until 4:10.

4:44 gave me sickening vertigo

Adham Nu'man - 2015-03-11

To me the worst part is DEFINITELY the beginning, where he is pulling himself up on the old cables, which not only could come loose at any moment, but are also a completely smooth surface. Your hand slips even a few millimeters on that cable and you're definitely not getting your grip back.

Gmork - 2015-03-11

Notice he grabs TWO when available - increasing the surface area his hands are covering. He probably knows how dumb it is, but my god he has lived more life in ten minutes than I have in thirty years.

I like to go hiking at a place that's about 200M at the top. It's a trail but not a wide one and if you fall you're pretty much fucked and last time it was a really cold day (for Oregon, about 35 degrees) and I was by myself, save for a couple mazamas that I could see in the distance. And I brought nothing except a couple of beers to drink on the top and I was wearing sneakers. Everything was melting at the bottom and frozen at the top, and since it's waterfalls shit was falling all around me. I'm actually surprised I am writing this. Didn't go half way that time, but the way down was like the world's most dangerous waterslide.

EvilHomer - 2015-03-11

Well I once ate a whole large pizza at Pepe's all by myself.

Nominal - 2015-03-11

Oh shit! I was skipping ahead a minute and completely missed the cables. Yeah I could easily do the ladders that high up but FUCK trusting those cables.

infinite zest - 2015-03-11

Nice! Some day if you're ever in Portland, you should Pepsi Challenge two places against Pepis and Sally's: Apizza Scholls and Ken's Artisan Pizza. I've known a few east coast people who compare the two, but it's like blasphemy to say that one's better than the other, even though they live out here now. I don't think there's too much blasphemy in me saying that pizza out here generally sucks, but I guess those are good.

infinite zest - 2015-03-11

Nominal I did the same thing the first time. I saw the cables but kinda assumed that they were attached to something really sturdy and.. well.. this guy's insane. Like I said below, I was also about ready to call it quits when it was like "welp, made it to the top.." My hikes get pretty high up but the incline, even on the edge, is pretty staggered so it's not like I couldn't grab onto a branch or something, or more likely get cushoned by a bush.. something.. the view at 4:25 says it all. I know some people who do this stuff have some sort of emergency parachute-device.. maybe (I'm kinda a Luddite when it comes to climbing) but I don't think there'd be a chance of opening it if you fell into that abyss. D:

infinite zest - 2015-03-11

also all I can think about is the ladder from Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater. The one that doesn't end until the song is over.

EvilHomer - 2015-03-11

Missing time, sped up frames, no descent? Yeah, clearly fake.

chumbucket - 2015-03-11

I'm guessing within the next 2 years we see the first DVD release of "GoPro Faces Of Death"

Killer Joe - 2015-03-11

The nice part is the camera and footage will survive the fall!

infinite zest - 2015-03-11

I was about ready to turn it off when he got to the top. That's when shit got real.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-03-12

That was nothing less than amazing.

bopeton - 2015-03-11

Honestly I could do the ascent part of this.

The problem is going back down-- for some reason that's always ten times scarier.

Nominal - 2015-03-11

That's because the old saying "Don't look down" is absolutely true. Climbing involves looking at your feet while they're raised. Descending requires you to look at them while they're lower and thus you're constantly catching more glimpses at the void below.

Crab Mentality - 2015-03-11

You know, Evel Knieval risked his life all the time. But you had to pay him. This is crazy dangerous, and I don't expect whoever did it made any money at all from it. Just a few more hits on youtube.

TeenerTot - 2015-03-12

Nooooo.
Oh, no.
No no no!
NONONONONONONONOOOOOOO!!!!

yogarfield - 2015-03-13

I could do it. I am sky-bouncer.
