YAY!!!! At first I was worried that it was a camera rip but this is great! The only cam rip I've ever seen that was great was Korine's Spring Breakers, because the whole film had that shaky washed out style he's known for, even though it was unintentional. When people complained about the film being bullshit I didn't get it until I watched a regular rip.

I'll have to watch the whole thing later, but watched the first couple minutes. It's like looking into a mirror my Junior year of high school. When I was in high school the seniors had to do an art project about Beowulf and I spent almost all of my free time helping my friends with their very ambitious project (instead of working on my own homework, ironically Catcher in the Rye) which basically was a metaphor for Grendel being every bully, done in a sort of Reservoir Dogs/Jim Jarmusch type of way. And we pretty much had permission to film all over school with fake guns, all this stuff. And the teachers loved their idea. We weren't bullied, per se, but we were the drama/AV Club geeks. The football jocks were happy to be the bad guys and get shot down, etc. About a week after, it was April 20th 1999 and an investigation was put into place about our motives. They still got accepted to college but I had to talk to a lot of police officers and decided to take my senior classes at community college instead.

Holy shit! That was.. I don't even have the words. But here's a few: at first I was turned off by the Blair Witch style, and a few times it breaks into what I'd like to call Trailer Park Boys Syndrome (you know, the flashbacks with Conky that didn't make any sense because how would the person filming it be there and a few other cinematic elements).. I don't want to spoil anything but overall it made sense to do it that way. While I understand why it got such a limited release because of recent events, I don't think it's fair that Elephant was so praised. Just because Kevin Smith did it and the kids are a bit like Jay and Silent Bob doesn't mean that it's a comedy. Can you even name all of Gus Van Sant's movies without looking it up? I can't and I see him nearly every day. The little press this movie got is the Van Sant equivalent of one of his movies ending in disappointment because it didn't end with a semi-happy ending with the Starland Fucking Vocal Band playing it out. They should be showing this movie in high school health class instead of Degrassi Jr. High, and everybody should see it. I don't say that a lot about movies, but if you were about to redbox Birdman or something, just watch this instead. Thanks guys.

Matthew Johnson was the director. Kevin Smith helped out with the music licensing and he made the film part of the Kevin Smith Movie Club, highlighting the works of young up-and-coming directors.

That music, for whatever reason, has one hell of a hook on me.

Yeah really. It says it's by a band called Tigs but I can't find out any more info than that. This will probably go down with Ashtar Command in Red Dead Redemption as one of the best end credits songs that I couldn't find much about and have never seen.

The singers name is Tigs, she sings for a duo named 'Chew Lips'

I presume for a lot of these "homages", they just licensed a few seconds of actual footage from the films themselves, specifically AIRPLANE!, since as far as I can tell owning AIRPLANE! on Blu-Ray, it's identical other than the name replacing the title, unless they recreated the original practical model shot (with cotton wool clouds) frame by frame in CGI (and if they did, they did an amazing job).

It's a low-budget Canadian movie, but Kevin Smith helped them out with the licensing issues (at least for music, but I suspect also with this credits sequence).
