I once went out with this guy who was from a small town in Utah. He didn't have a lot of exposure to Asian culture. Our one and only date was at a Japanese restaurant where he did his Mr. Miyagi impression, insulted the waitress with his quaint "accent" ala Dana Carvey here, and proceeded to tell me things he knew about Japan, which basically accounted to both stereotypes and also confusing it with China.
I had to leave a larger than normal tip that day.
