kinda goes to hell around 25:08

Lef - 2014-12-18

strange stuff.. I'd set the start time to 25:08 (or there abouts) yet poe skips it forward.

infinite zest - 2014-12-18

Holy shit you ain't kidding. My plan was to listen to this as I fell asleep (it's 4AM here) and figured I must've hit mute or whatever so I just fell asleep with the video still playing. :) Now I'm awake again.

Lef - 2014-12-18

sorry, did not mean to star my submission. Off to the corner for me I suppose

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-12-18

If you weren't supposed to star your own submission, you wouldn't be able to. I've been coming here for ten years, and as far as I've noticed, people making an issue of it is a recent phenomenon.

Meerkat - 2014-12-18

Why in the world would anyone care if someone rates their own video? It used to be that people would bitch if you bulbed your own posts in poe-red but ratings on videos are a completely different beast.

Old_Zircon - 2014-12-18

I've been coming here since the beginning, and I've noticed people caring about it less in the last couple of years.

Ditto submitting your own videos.

infinite zest - 2014-12-18

Lef I've tried to time-mark my submissions on here, and it's weird, because it works for me embedded on here but I don't think it works for anybody else, unless they click through to the original YT video (your time-mark works fine when I click through.) Oh well, at least we don't have to see all those pesky ads, although I have the sudden urge to pre-order a Playstation 4 :)

That guy - 2014-12-18

Nobody puts Leffy in a corner!

No but seriously, folks, I'm one of the big fat babies who's been fussing when people star their own videos. To me it seems like:
"I'M COOL, RIGHT GUYS?!?" and it pushes you toward having a perfect score, when it seems like it's up to everyone else to decide if you've found something poe-worthy.
Trivial, I know.

So I'm prepared to be shouted down on this, if I'm the last hold-out.

As for videos with Star Wars and MLP content, you'll have to pry the 1-stars from my cold, dead hand.

cognitivedissonance - 2014-12-19

I star everything 5 stars. They are an utterly meaningless currency and I intend to continue devaluing it.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-12-19

>>it seems like it's up to everyone else to decide if you've found something poe-worthy.

Okay, well, isn't that what voting out of the hopper decided?

The thing is, when I five star something I submitted, it's never "Hooray for me", It's always "Hooray for whoever created this." Nobody should be that personally invested in someone else's work, but your opinion counts exactly as much as anybody else's opinion.

>>So I'm prepared to be shouted down on this, if I'm the last hold-out.

You have a right to express your opinion, but people are going to do what they're going to do.

And now communism will spread and take over the world

Why was Cuba off limits in the first place, other than the whole communism thing? US is friends with many communist/dictatorships these days. Why has it gone on so long?

StanleyPain - 2014-12-18

It's brown people and they don't really have anything we need, so Conservatives could give a shit.

Also, we have been so thoroughly embarrassed by Cuba so many times (failed coups, etc.) that I guess a lot of people see it as saving face of some sort to not acknowledge them at all.

This is the perfect time for this shit, frankly, as now Fidel is no longer officially in charge and Russia is in a super-shit situation now that will probably lead to a new Cold War that they will lose badly and if Cuba are on our side in it, it would be a major coup.

Lef - 2014-12-18

The missile crisis was a big deal, having the Cubans prepare to host Russian nuclear weapons off the coast of Florida was an aggressive move.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-12-18

It was a safe "enemy" for the cold warriors to have a go at with no real trade value and it sounded good to useful idiot voters with few geography skills, a vague memory of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and who get euphoric over dick-waving of any kind.

For all the stories of the Castro regime "stealing" businesses/property from innocent Cubans, few seem to recall just what an asshole Batista was, what we and US businesses did to prop him up, and how much they (and we) fucked over the population. It's a lot like Iran in that respect, where people scream about the current regime and don't seem to remember that we helped keep a dictator running the joint.

Nominal - 2021-04-08

"Why, other than the whole communism thing?"

Behold the stupid, stupid mindset and legacy of the cold war. Trillions of dollars and millions of lives flushed for the most harmless whispers of communism.

Way less communist takeover and way more lives flushed in East Timor. Look up what the butcher Kissenger signed off on there.

jreid - 2014-12-18

As a Canadian I'm selfishly concerned that this will be the end of cheap, tropical vacations free from American tourists.

cognitivedissonance - 2014-12-19

Knowing very well that Democrats are unlikely to win Florida in the foreseeable future, this is effectively a dismissal movement that forces Jeb Bush to go on the defensive and have to rant about Communism during the primaries. This will crank up the opponents to take the bait and conflate Communism with anti-Hispanic sentiment just generally, because the idiots don't really know the difference between Cubans and Messicans, which wounds the one potential voting bloc Jeb could've had.

What the man does is corner his opponents during elections, which is awesome, but he can't seem to do it during the actual leadership phase. The plus side is, he's still got another 30 years or so to be the political Patton he really actually should be.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-12-19

I don't think it'll be that big a deal. From what I was hearing earlier, more than half of Cuban-Americans think this is a good idea and that clinging to the Cold War stuff is stupid. Even the US Chamber of Commerce thinks this is a good idea, and they're not above torpedoing things for right-wing ideological purposes.

Unless a given congressperson/governor can get traction in a swing district, I don't think anyone will really care.
