What's the context of this? Is this guy on a moral crusade against violent hip hop lyrics, or is this an abstract point he's trying to make about life int he hood?
I remember this pretty well. Judging by the year, it was probably my junior year in high school, which means that the Columbine massacre was around the same time. Before Columbine, parents were worried that if we listened to Nirvana we might kill ourselves, and if we listened to Biggie and Tupac we might kill each other. And then because of Marilyn Manson, a school got shot up. I believe it was pretty much a war on all music with violent, suicidal or otherwise hateful lyrics in an attempt to get the CDs and cassettes banned all-together. That, and our President got a blowjob. Oh and some group called Al Qaeda just bombed some US Embassies in Africa, but that's like way over there. THIS is what we need to be focusing on.
