This has to be some kind of avant garde performance art, right? It's too great not to be. "Hand Mole Man"!?

Hans Moleman is one of my favorite The Simpsons background ponies. I don't think he's ever been in a bad bit, and if he has, please don't correct me.

Maybe it was just my imagination, but it seemed like Hans got replaced as the resident bad luck guy by the vastly inferior Gil. I mean, Gil was alright, I guess, but he was no Hans Moleman. Well, I'm going to go watch the first 8 seasons again.

EvilHomer - 2014-10-16 I really didn't like Gil. I thought I did, at first, but when this video came on, and I started going over all the background characters on the show, which ones I liked, which ones I didn't, thinking about Ol' Gil made me feel a little angry.

cognitivedissonance - 2014-10-17 I have no problem with Gil. As the son of a car salesman, he is a very accurate type, and although he's based on Jack Lemmon's character, he is actually really pretty intelligent compared to the other denizens of Springfield. Plus, he works hard, he tries to contribute, he is a positive character in a show of otherwise layabout blow-hards. If I had to point to a character other than Ned Flanders that could be seen as a positive character, it's Gil. Even Marge and Lisa have been so frequently deflated over the years that every time they take a moral stance it's fleeting.

"The Old Guy" has never been a name people call Hans.
You either know Hans or you do not know Hans.
