Not really "rocking" the vote anymore; Step the Vote? Let the Ballot Drop?

I love that Washington State is vote-by-mail only. And when I lived in California I was registered as a permanent vote-by-mail voter.

Why would the token banker guy even bother voting? Voting is a purely symbol act with no measurable power to effect change on an individual level; he'd get more political clout simply by staying in the office and spending the morning making even more money, money which could then be funneled towards lobbying interest groups.

He also raises a good point: the sort of basement dwellers who actually take RockTheVote seriously are not really the best kind of people to be deciding our country's future. If you're so impressionable that a loud guitar chord or a vapid celebrity reading from a script is enough to convince you that what you're hearing is true, then perhaps you *should* stay home? That is not to say that poorly informed activists can't be convinced to support the "right side" (whatever that may be), but they are still just tools, bodies to be manipulated and exploited by cynical, sophistry-loving propagandists. Democracy, real democracy, will only work to the people's benefit through sober, informed, rational discourse. Mob voting, such as that promoted by RockTheVote, will only ever result in a system where popular politics is nothing more than theater, where all meaningful decisions are made behind closed doors by those who command the mob, while the illusion of democracy placates both the underclasses, who feel like they have a say in the system, and the ruling class, who are almost able to believe that their rule has been blessed by a genuine mandate.

Maybe we should start a new group? Debate the Vote? Our ads could revolve around young people reading books, attending lectures, and respectfully discussing policy with people whose views are fundamentally different from their own.

I'm just gonna write in EvilHomer on everything. #EvilHomerthevote. Feel like being an Oregon Senator, son?

Maybe (and I say this with ZERO conviction) it's better for people to boldly stumblefuck forward and screw up than sit and do nothing due to an inability to choose between two directly contradictory paths with any kind of clarity.

Don't quote me saying that, I will deny it. Idealism or humans deserve extinction, bitches!
