I saw Cinematic Titanic on the last tour. They've still got it.

Dib - 2014-09-26 I have to admit (as much as I hate to say it) that CT is more entertaining then Rifftrax. The ones I saw featured actual written jokes, while a lot of Rifftrax has fallen into a stating reactions like 'argh I can't believe how much this movie sucks' and 'this was my reaction watching [insert other shitty movie title]'.
I love Nelson, Corbett and Murphy though and if MST3K ever returned I hope it would be with them voicing the characters. I think now days they could animate the silhouettes and use hired help for the puppets, because I know they wouldn't be up for the physical exertion today.

Nominal - 2014-09-26 Rifftrax has its hits or misses but there's still plenty of good stuff in there that's right up there with the quality MST3k material.
If you haven't seen it yet, definitely check out their Birdemic riff.

infinite zest - 2014-09-26 Interesting. Birdemic, Sharknado, movies like that seemed to write themselves with MST3K or Rifftrax commentaries in mind, not to mention Asylum. I'm not sure if the people working on Manos Hands of Fate actually thought they were creating a masterpiece, or even The Room for that matter. It's funny because I was watching Birdemic by myself the first time and it was painful. My housemate came home and was like "what the fuck are you watching?" and I turned it off and we threw something else on. But watching it with a group of people was a thing of glory. I'm not too familiar with Rifftrax and what movies they review, but I'd like to see more big budget sort-of-self-conscious-pieces-of-shit like Edge of Tomorrow (actually a REALLY GOOD piece-of-shit) with their commentary. Birdemic sort of squaks for itself, but I'll check it out. :)

Nominal - 2014-09-27 Can't really get into Asylum stuff. Their enjoyability ends at the title and trailer. There's no charm to any of it. I prefer the passion of the inept when it comes to awful movies.
I'd put the Rifftrax Birdemic episode as their 2nd most enjoyable, only slightly behind Space Mutiny.

infinite zest - 2014-09-27 The first one I saw was Abraham Lincoln Vs. Zombies (I doubt if you have to figure out what it's a rip-off of, and it was a better movie than the original: the guy playing Lincoln actually nailed it, I mean, not that I knew Lincoln, but I figure that was exactly how he talked, and the pacing was better, for a movie about Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies that is. I was like "wow, there's a lot of great struggling actors who are really doing a great job in this movie about Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies." It was a charming little film, before these movies jumped the shark, or to be more specific, the shark jumped them. The Sharknado movies (specifically number 2) are just plain annoying to me. "Remember that guy?" type cameos and just plain crowdsourced nonsense, and now they've got Corman on the way down. Corman deserves better than movies that make fun of themselves, that let you live-tweet your riffs, etc. But Abraham Lincoln Vs. Zombies is worth checking out.

Most go for Mr. B-Natural for their favorite short, but this one will always be tops for me.

Catching Trouble, the one where the guy goes and molests wild animals while the narrator cheers him on.

The rights to MST3K are held by Jim Mallon who, last I heard, hated Joel with the fury of a trillion suns. But given the recent talk of a revived series, I guess that changed?
Another thing - I wonder what changed that enabled the Gamera episodes to be released on DVD. Originally, the Japanese rights holders were horrified and unequivocally said no. I know it was nothing to do with Sandy Frank's rumored-but-nonexistence hatred of the show. Indeed, that mini-documentary they did about him should have started with the cast dancing on Sandy's grave to the Sandy Frank Song (since the fans probably assumed that his death would be the only chance for a release). Sandy Frank joins them, andthey soon realize who he is and run away screaming. Sandy keeps dancing, because dancing on your own grave is probably pretty liberating.

BiggerJ - 2014-09-27 Or maybe SandyFrank did up the price because he was initially offended. Who the fuck knows. Neeerds. Nerds know.

Bringing this show back would be the worst day of my life. If I ever see mst3k trying to encapsulate the pure glucose stupid of the Internet in its jokes, I will join Al Qaeda, or worse, the GOP.
|
infinite zest - 2014-09-27 I imagine a revival sort of like Sifl and Olly's, which would be a bad thing. If anything, I thought it kind of ran its course with the theatrical movie, which, save for a few PG13 swear words I believe, wasn't any different than an average episode, and actually a lot less funny.
|
BiggerJ - 2014-09-27 It was less funny because they had to space out the jokes so people in theaters wouldn't laugh to much. They may have toned down the joke quality too, who knows.
I was lucky, the movie was the only episode ever shown on Australian television and after hearing about it on the internet it destroyed my expectations. Then I started downloading episodes of the show and destroyed the new expectations too.

I'd watch if it was Corbett as crow, and both Forresters, the ghost of TV's Frank, and Brain Guy. I know it is a lot of characters but really I would love to see more of the "family". If Joel and Mike just alternated episodes or something it would be fine.
Perhaps TV's Frank is a head in a box like Jombi the Genie.
