I'm pretty sure Zellers went the way of Ames when the century turned the corner.

sasazuka - 2014-08-26 No, Zellers was/is still around. They got bought up by Target in 2011, all Zellers stores were closed in 2012/2013, with most of them having been converted to Target, and most of the rest of them either being sold to other chains like Walmart.
However, a few of the Zellers locations that weren't sold have actually been re-opened under the Zellers banner by the Hudson's Bay Company as clearance centres for Bay department store and other HBC-owned store overstock. The reopened Zellers stores are basically the HBC version of Winners/Marshall's/TJ Maxx.
Interestingly, Target Canada has been struggling. I think the stores were closed too long for renovation and suspect that a lot of Zellers customers switched to shopping at Walmart or elsewhere and many of them didn't come back when the stores reopened as Targets. There have been rumours that Target will have to turn things around over the Christmas shopping season otherwise they may close some stores in Canada next year, although, publically, they're still committed to opening 150 stores in Canada by the end of 2017.

Rosebeekee - 2014-08-26 There are only three Zellers left in Canada. I went to the one in Surrey awhile ago. I fight broke out in the furniture section. Also, all of their shoes were around and they still had mittens from the Winter Olympics. From 2010.

I don't think anyone in Canada has ever worn a bolo tie and, as kid in Canada in the 80s as well, I very much doubt Zellers was ever selling them.

sasazuka - 2014-08-26 It's entirely possible that some kids did wear bolo ties at the elementary school I went to in the Montreal area, I was hardly fashion-conscious. Just saying, if they did wear them, I didn't notice.

I see a lot of talk about this so-called "Canadian Bolo Tie." What everyone should be talking about it the bolo tie with the popped collar.
