6:55 and 10:00 are autofive. I've seen this before but that's kinda comedy gold, whether or not you like Macfarlane. The rest is Family Guy without Family Guy.

BiggerJ - 2014-08-22

Another take on 10:00's concept: http://cheeseburgerbrown.com/stories/Wile.html

infinite zest - 2014-08-22

Woah!

Juice Eggs McKenna - 2014-08-22

Thanks BiggerJ, looks like I've got a new author to stalk.

Scrimmjob - 2014-08-21

I made it to the preload image.

misterbuns - 2014-08-22

Somehow worse than Ferguson and ISIS combined.

BHWW - 2014-08-22

Ugh, Seth Macfarlane. He is like...the Seth Macfarlane of comedy.

mouser - 2014-08-25

Minus the looting.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-08-22

It's a cartoon. Parts of it are funny. Five stars for the predictable poetv hipster backlash.

Binro the Heretic - 2014-08-22

Yeah, some funny ideas, but too much of it was "LOOK HOW SHOCKING WE ARE! AREN'T WE JUST SO EDGY!"

EvilHomer - 2014-08-22

Looking down on hipsters is the most hipster thing you can do, Mr Holmes.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-08-22

Your stupidity is as enlarged as your prostate, old man.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-08-22

>>Looking down on hipsters is the most hipster thing you can do, Mr Holmes.

Yes, but I'm looking down on them IRONICALLY.

>>.Your stupidity is as enlarged as your prostate, old man.

Son, if you're insulting someone because of a cartoon, and your age has more than one digit, you may be a hipster.

Now, get off of my lawn.

EvilHomer - 2014-08-22

Looking down on hipsters ironically is exactly the sort of thing a hipster would do, but of course hipsters would know that, so they'd compensate for this by looking down on hipsters unironically. That means looking down on hipsters ironically would actually be more ironic than looking down on them unironically... huuuhhhhhh... so you've just double faked yourself right back into hipster territory, John.

infinite zest - 2014-08-22

This hipster knows what he's going as this halloween :)

lotsmoreorcs - 2014-08-22

lol, social retards still having the 'hipster' conversation

misterbuns - 2014-08-22

ironically what JHM would consider hipster attitudes are exactly those that inspire the comedic ethic of macfarlane.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-08-22

Izzat so?

Thanks for killing the joke, Homer.

The only think that I consider "hipster" in a derogatory way is making a big deal about hating something because it's popular. Based on that, Misterbuns may not be entirely wrong. Please don't construe any of this to mean that I'm a fan of McFarland. American Dad was played out years ago, and I can't make myself watch Family Guy after Peter killed Quagmire's cat. It didn't make me angry at the time, but it always makes me sad to remember that someone thought that was funny.

Quad9Damage - 2014-08-22

I made it through the whole thing. Some hits, mostly misses; it's like a mean-spirited animated Far Side.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-08-22

That's a perfect way of saying it.

Old_Zircon - 2014-08-22

The big difference is that The Far Side was actually pretty original for its time, at least in the domain of mainstream cartoons.

misterbuns - 2014-08-22

^^^ Yes.

Also, that isn't a big difference. It's a huge difference.

fluffy - 2014-08-22

agreed

spikestoyiu - 2014-08-22

I'm a McFarlane apologist insomuch that I think American Dad is often very funny. That said, I sat through about fifteen laughless minutes.

Xenocide - 2014-08-22

Seth has zero creative involvement in American Dad. It's completely the brainchild of Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman. All Seth has contributed is his art style and the voices of Stan and Roger.

infinite zest - 2014-08-22

I really liked Larry and Steve from the What a Cartoon Show on Cartoon Network years ago, and was really excited when I heard about Family Guy. Y'all probably know this but they're pretty much the same thing, but with the Looney Tunes antics in the short replaced by cutaway jokes. I honestly thought the Simpsons was going to end at S11 too, because it wasn't that funny anymore, and at the time FG was funnier than South Park (do a Pepsi Coke Challenge and watch the first episode of South Park and the first episode of Family Guy and tell me which one is funnier as if neither of the shows existed or carried a stigma.)

The house I was living in would have Cartoon Network on at pretty much all times and I wouldn't pay attention to FG until I was writing something and the one where Stewie and Brian are locked in the bank vault came on. I won't spoil it if you haven't seen it (chances are you won't watch it) but I was like "damn! A.) That's good writing and B.) That's something a show The Simpsons or South Park couldn't do." No cutaways, barely any jokes except for a shit-eating joke, and no music. It dealt with some fairly serious issues and I found myself tearing up the same way I did when Maggie said her first word. Next episode it's all forgotten of course.. anyway I will defend MacFarlane for those reasons and the chuckles I get when the show's randomly on somewhere.

spikestoyiu - 2014-08-22

I had zero idea Seth wasn't really involved in "American Dad" beyond the voices. I guess that explains that.

I don't judge FG on the same merits that I would judge most television or movies. Each episode comes down to many times it makes me audibly laugh. I would guess there's a 2-3 laugh average. All in all, it's funnier than "Big Bang Theory"... so it's got that going for it.

infinite zest - 2014-08-22

I became pretty indifferent after people got pissed that it was cancelled and then seemed to get equally pissed when it went back on the air. Same thing with Arrested Development. Funny show but I don't follow it. American Dad is pretty funny because of its disassociative nature, like the writers are on Ketamine or something when they're writing it. The few episodes I've seen have been pretty funny, especially the hot tub episode.

That being said, I was at a place last night and they had the Simpsons marathon that's on FXX right now playing, and it's the early ones that I haven't seen since maybe I was 10. I could still recite most of the episode, without sound or closed captioning. I don't think FG will have that impact on kids who were raised in the 00s, but it's not a bad show.

cognitivedissonance - 2014-08-22

The thing is, Seth himself is not a bad guy, and his jokes would work very well as a panel-panel-punchline comic strip. As a gigantic animation empire, it sort of falls apart. I'm also not sure how much of it is his own work and how much of it is writers, but I've heard he tears through writers quickly so it may be that's he's a control freak.

jreid - 2014-08-22

Honk.

The God of Biscuits - 2014-08-22

I feel like some of these are good concepts, but go on for far too long before the punchline. Most of these cartoons could have been 30 seconds or one minute.

EvilHomer - 2014-08-22

And now, ladies and gentlemen, Mister Conway Twitty.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-08-22

I think the best thing you can say about MacFarland is that he's an amazing voice actor. He really is undetectable in some of those voices. One of the funniest aspects of Familly Guy was that the only character who sounded like McFarland was the dog.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-08-22

Zipped ahead a few minutes and then watched for maybe 2 or 3. Meh.

That guy - 2014-08-22

I'm sure there are some funny parts but I'm not sifting through an hour of MacFarlane for them.
Tim and Eric should get together with MacFarlane and make a movie called Diamonds in the Outhouse.

Music by ________.

Spaceman Africa - 2014-08-22

Consistently unpleasant.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2014-08-22

I hate to admit it (no seriously, I REALLY hate to admit it), but the horse in the bar segment at 6:55 actually make me laugh.

The rest of it is un-fucking-bearable though. It's literally just a collage of Family Guy's cutaway bullshit without the rest of the show present.

infinite zest - 2014-08-22

That's how I feel whenever Robot Chicken's on. If it makes me laugh it makes me laugh. Granted I had a few, but I was talking to a bartender who's also a very close friend about how I laugh and it's kinda embarrassing, like reading buzzfeed lists or listening to Haim. We all do it, we just don't like to admit it.

infinite zest - 2014-08-22

oh yeah. Anyway I went trick or treating with her and her daughter who had a homemade Robot Chicken mask and it sort of offended her and I felt bad then..

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-08-23

This helps showcase MacFarlane's "humor" (good or ill, you decide), but it really demonstrates that you could get the same laughs from the same viewers without the god-awful characters in Family Guy.

I've found some of his shorts and asides pretty amusing as basically animated comic strips, but his idea of what makes for an appealing regular cast just baffles me, even as a parody of families in both real life or in sit coms. They're all just completely unappealing on almost every level.

oddeye - 2014-08-23

I did not enjoy the 3 minutes I saw. I hope others do, however.

Old People - 2014-08-23

Bring on the rape jokes and graphic violence, Mr MacFarlane; we can't get enough of them.
